Today was week 5 run 2, I can almost taste the longer run on Friday.
It is hot today, I was going to go down to the local ParkRun course and do todays run outside but believe it or not, it was cooler in the conservatory.
Both 8 minute runs were like walking in the door to your house after you've been away for too long, a nice comfortable feeling of familiarity, one I've missed.
Heartrate and breathing were fine through-out both segments, my heartrate never hit 150 on the first and only went above that on the second because I spent the last 60 seconds at a true running pace and not a light jog.
So now I have a day to rest up before the 20 minute run, if it's not too hot in the morning I may go for a little bike ride again, it's been a month since I went on my first solo bike ride.
I re-did the same route as my first solo ride yesterday and with the mixture of running and the rides I have done I knock over 11 minutes off of the original time.
My resting heartrate has dropped to week 9 levels from last year and my cardio-vascular fitness must be getting better due to the lower average heartrate throughout the runs. On the ride yesterday I didn't stop (except for 1 gate and to add a split on the timer when I'd finished the original course) and my average heart rate was nearly 20bpm lower, in a month!
If you have access to a bike then try cycling as a rest day activity.
I'm trying to ignore the Garmin training effect, I used to use it as a measure that I was actually trying and putting effort into a run, last years W5R2 was 4.2, todays 2.8 and I know for a fact I'm doing the same speed, etc, as last year.
My weight hasn't really dropped that much, in a month I've dropped about 6-7lbs BUT, I'm back to the last hole on my belt again and things are feeling looser.
My legs are improving no end, my quads are starting to show even when I'm relaxed. It must be getting close to the point where I need to start doing some work on my arms, shoulders and chest too.
Happy running everyone.
