Issues with comments shouted at you while running ..

Since I started C25K I’ve had many occasions when I’m minding my own business running/jogging and people ( men ) decide to shout out of their cars/vans as they’re driving past wolf whistling , jeering and the likes . The one morning I was actually on my last 5 min cool down walk and was close to my house and the same thing happened and my husband heard out of the window , and he’s quite concerned about it . Anybody else have issues like that ?

I think there was a similar post to this on here earlier, it must be a regular thing.

I hope you ignore them whistlers etc and continue to enjoy your running.

Yes ... but slightly differently ... I live in rural Africa where they are not used to seeing white women running!! I get laughed at, pointed at, mimicked ... but it’s all in humour, not aggression!

But when I’m puffing & panting it’s quite hard to take ...

Yes I can imagine , live and let live , I don’t understand dot , it’s the only negative of running outdoors , I’ve even looked into buying a treadmill because I love running x

Misogynistic pigs. Ignore them and rise above it.

The post I think people are referring to is here

I’ve just noticed that post but yeah I agree I still might look into buying a treadmill though , I thought by going out very early would help but there’s still people about early workers and the likes xx

Early workers and the likes?! Who are the 'likes'? The last thing on early workers' minds would be paying attention to runners...

in reply tomrrun

Know that for a fact do you?

Sorry if I offended you , that’s just my experience and it’s always been workers in company vans

Please don't let these morons put you off running outdoors. It's so much better to be outside than indoors on a treadmill, if that's what you want to do.

They are just sad mindless idiots. Don't let them intimidate you. You are better than them.

don't give it a second's thought! keep moving and listen to something more to your taste (music/podcast etc)!!

Don’t let them put you off kerryleannexx they’re just sad little blokes showing off in front of their mates, who’d run a mile if a woman spoke to them....stick with running outdoors, it’s much better than running on a treadmill 👍

Aww thanks yeah I know the benefits outweigh the negatives , I think it’s bothered husband a lot as well after he heard xx

Just think that they are jealous that you are able to run while they can't. Don't let it put you off. You are worth more than that.

How strange that we’ve both written about our similar experiences. Don’t let it get to you, maintain your focus and let it go. Men who undermine women in this way don’t deserve a second thought, it’s them who have the problem so pass it back to them and jog on! Xx

Really sad that you experience that full stop ! Never mind whether it’s when you are running or not. Just try to ignore it. No doubt it’s easier for me to say than for you to actually do, but don’t let it put you off running outdoors.

Lowlifes and sad little people ... that lack common decency ..

Don’t let the bullies put you off and ruin your enjoyment and the health benefits ... I have a treadmill and couldn’t get into the routine I have with C25K and now it’s sat with the weekly recycling on it ...

As another comment said, switch your headphones up to your favourite tunes and let them look stupid as you don’t react as you can’t hear them!

Thanks I don’t react and yeah that’s what I do.

That's horrible, and would bother me immensely. It's no excuse but these people are so sad and deprived that they need make themselves feel better by putting you down. But atleast you're doing something worthwhile and achieving something to be proud of.

It’s the only part of it that puts me off too , I love Sunday mornings because there isn’t a soul around , weekdays though is a different

story.

It’s awful that I’m this day and age people still have to put up with things like this. Sorry that you’ve had this experience, it’d be a real shame for you to hide away indoors on a treadmill though because of the behaviour of a few idiots. I know it’s easy for me to say as a bloke but I’d just turn my headphones up louder and ignore them 😊

What a shame this still happens. I don’t get wolf whistled these days, I am 55 now. I don’t think you should take any notice of these people or let them put you off your outdoor running, They are probably just being cheeky. However, I do think you need to watch out for your personal safety. I don’t think that running or walking with both earphones in is a good idea, I only ever use one. You should be able to hear what is going on around you whether that is just traffic or people getting close.
