From my brief experiance a walk on rest day has actually helped me recover. There have been days esp. in week 1 and 2 that my shins felt very sore the next day and I decided to cycle instead of walk. Taking at least one day completely off has been helpful to recover completely and feel like i come back stronger every week.

Dont neglect the streching immediatly after your run and walk. makes a HUGE difference

Everyone is different though, i listen to my body and legs and try my best not to push it past what I can handle.

This guide to the plan is essential reading healthunlocked.com/couchto5...

and includes advice on minimising impact, stretching after every run, hydration and strengthening exercises, all of which will help.

The rest days are rest from impact exercises.

Enjoy your journey.
