Yesterday, my rest day, I went for a walk in the Derbyshire Peaks (those who know it t’was dovedale to mildale and back along the river Dove) .. anyway, the reason for me writing this was; although my cardio fitness has improved no end through running 3 times a week now since 2nd Jan I’m clearly not a fit as I thought. About an hour into the walk there is quite a steep incline with around 100/150 steps upwards.. omg.. I was huffing & puffing and really struggling, in my head all I could hear was the voice of Micheal Johnson saying “no matter how slow, just don’t stop” my recover is 1000 times better though, as soon as we were at the top I was off striding out about.. but just goes to show I need to do more than just running to improve my overall fitness, I was quite shocked at myself.
On a plus note though, the weather was lovely. 🌞
Happy Monday everyone.

What a lovely part of the world. Walking is great on rest days. Have you got the active 10 app? We can increase cardio fitness even more my alternating running days and active 10 (3x10 minutes of brisk walking) so you would then be above the recommended 150 minutes of weekly cardio. 100/150 steps on a climb is also cardio for sure. Good workout in amazing surroundings.
Sure... we don’t normally climb that many in one go! There’s a fair few hills round here that can still take my breath... though I plan to run up Jacobs Ladder onto the plateau at some point this year, so I’d best get training on steep ones. I was a slow walker but covered a lot of distance... now I walk much faster and hit the active 10 without trying, so was wondering if you did too as it’s starting to make a difference in all my life.
thanks for sharing the lovely picture... and good tip to know about how to get 'fitter' over and above running. My hubby has noted that I'm returning less 'sweaty' as I improve (how romantic)... and I measure my recovery vs the dogs recovery... and I'm improving that too!
