Week 8 here I come.

I really cannot belive how far I've come. Never in a million years did I think I would get this far being unfit and over weight. I actually look forward to running instead of dreading it. Just one question, I know we shouldn't get distracted by speed but out of interest what length of time should it take to run for a kilometer at this stage because I am very very slow?

Hi I am like you old and overweight and slow !! I did the first run of week 8 yesterday I did 3.58km including my two walks and it was 10.15 mins a km 🐌🐌 let me know how you do.

Well done.

The length of time that you should take to run a kilometre at this stage of the plan is the length of time it takes you to run a kilometre at a comfortable pace at this stage of the plan.

Unless you are comparing yourself to someone who is your age, your weight, has your level of fitness and experience, then the exercise is futile. There is one person who matches that all pretty closely and that is your former pre C25k self........the only useful comparison.

Very wise and very diplomatic! It would be great to know what an average is though. My mother-in-law competes in triathlons and I’m currently running at a slightly slower pace to her (but she’s 70, 20 yrs older)! 🤔

You can look on parkrun results pages and find times for people in your age range.......be warned you may feel very inadequate or very smug as a consequence and neither is particularly good for the ego, which is why we don't encourage comparison.

Hey I wouldn’t worry about pace, that will come after if you want it to.

I am not yet 40 and am doing around that pace per km so you would put me to shame but you know what? I am enjoying what I am doing and if I go faster at any point then bonus and if I want to make it faster then that’s a goal I can make but for now, enjoy your new hobby! 😃
