New Runner at 70

I am just finished week 2. I have never run before and never been a 'sporty' person. The insides of my knees are slightly tender so I have begun the NHS knee strengthening exercises and even after two days of doing them I am seeing an improvement.

I just love the feeling of running, it is so different from walking, I would never have believed it.

I would love to hear from anyone who have begun this running program at 70 without any prior experience, it would be so encouraging. It is great to set myself a challenge like this even though my friends think I am pretty silly.

You are not being pretty silly, many runners on this forum started when they were in their 60's and 70's, I started C25K on the 18th April 2018 when I was 71 and graduated on the 18th June 2018 3 weeks after my 72nd birthday, so never too late to start.

Good luck for your running journey with C25K, you can repeat any runs or week's if you wish to, drink plenty of water to avoid dehydration, no running on consecutive days as that could cause a injury, enjoy.

Welcome to the forum and well done on

This guide to the plan is essential reading healthunlocked.com/couchto5...

and includes advice on minimising impact, stretching after every run, hydration and strengthening exercises, all of which will help.

You will see mention of an 83 year old graduate in the guide.......you are a youngster.

Enjoy your journey.

Hi I'm 72 and have just completed week 2 run 2! I have been inactive since the start of lockdown but was a horse rider previously. I started the programme to try and up my fitness levels prior to riding again, its not been easy as i live in a very hilly area but I am really rather pleased with myself.

Keep up the good work x

You are not silly. Go for it. You have nothing to lose and a lot that you may gain.

I am 72 and just starting week 9. Please read and follow the guide and enjoy c25k by finding your own pace which you may think is too slow but most definitely will be not!
