Becoming a Runner!

At 50, I guess I felt too old to start running, but I’m just about to start W5R1 and I love it! It’s a great stress reliever after work and I love how introversive running is - getting totally lost in your thoughts and your playlist too. I never thought I’d be a runner but the more I do it, the more I feel I may have just discovered a little bit of me that I never knew existed. Fingers crossed I get to go all the way on this lovely journey 😄

I know exactly how you are feeling - I completed C25K 5 years or so ago at age 67 - I had never been able to run at all in my younger days and now look at me :) I think the beauty of C25k (and other similar programmes) is the progressive nature of it. Each week you think "I can't do THAT!" but you do - and even sometimes when you don't , you have another try until you do "do it!" :)

Wow, well done to you! Yes I love the progressive nature of it too as it allows us to build momentum week by week. Although I have to say W5R3 looks terrifying and I’m only 2 runs away from it! 😂

You're never too old. I graduated in March at 52 so easy peasy. I would say take it slow though as injuries can crop up on you at 'our age', especially if as I was your caring a few extra pounds

Congratulations! Yes I’m taking it slow as I’ve had back problems in the past. So far so good though 🤞

I start next week with dodgy knees already but I’m going to give it a go. Slow but sure approach I think!

Definitely slow! I made a decision to go at my own pace; in fact, I don’t monitor my pace at all as I feel it’s much more important to complete than be quick

Welcome to the club, I'm 51 and graduated a couple of weeks ago. I love to run for all the same reasons , enjoy and keep going. I can't even imagine not running now.

Congratulations! That’s brilliant. It’s definitely harder as you get older so I feel really proud that I’ve got to W5 without any mishaps!

I like that- discovering a little bit of me I never knew existed. 9 weeks ago I couldn’t believe I could run 60 seconds without stopping. I was so amazed and thrilled I could. I’ve got as far as week 9 Run 2 today. And I’m 60 this year.

Wow!! That’s fantastic! Had you ever ran before? I start next week! I’m 54. Scary stuff.

What an inspiration you are! I’m 54 and start W1 day 1 on Wednesday next week. Planned my schedule for the next 9 weeks! Had you run before though?

No! I’m a new runner. I’ve gone to the gym or classes on and off over the years but never fully committed as I didn’t really enjoy it if I’m honest. I’ve never done street running before and it always looked very impressive to me so I can’t believe I’m becoming a runner!

There’s hope for me then! I’m the same. Exercise not in my DNA at all but I wish it was. I go to the gym and have done on and off for a few years now but not done any running. I’ll use you as my inspiration! All the best x
