Runners have the worse memory...

Hey my lovelies....I hope you are all doing well? I am loving the consolidation club posts and just generally being around more and keeping a beady eye on everyone!! You all keep me motivated, you will never know how much!!

BUT...I have just read a post that makes me think that runners have the worst memory...

We are all so quick to criticise ourselves, whether it’s about our time, our distance or our pace, all these things, do they really matter??? We are too hard on ourselves and can often expect too much too soon. Whatever pace you run at, it is YOUR run...nobody else’s..it’s for you, just for you...

So, instead of thinking about what we can’t do we need to remember just how far we’ve come and that seems to be something we forget very quickly.

However far you are in the programme just look at how far you’ve come and that what you’re doing now isn’t something you could do a few short weeks ago...and you should be extremely proud of yourself...just saying xxx

Omg - what a fabulously inspiring post Mummycav - really! As you know, back running again... about to finish... again... C25K... currently w9, r2 & 3 to go... & was feeling a little disheartened as seemed so much harder this time round... & yet... what did I expect from my 61yr old, asthmatic-y, post-injury body...?! I will go out tomorrow (in the rain most likely) & be proud of achieving this all again! Woohoo! Life, even in lockdown, is good! 🏃🏼‍♀️🏆🎉 xxx

I needed this! Have done two consolidation runs and for some reason have been focusing on hitting 5k and ignoring the fact that 1. I’ve been running regularly now for 2 months without fail and 2 I can now run 30 minutes! Anything else above that is just a bonus now. I never started this to become an athlete or to beat a time, it was about challenging myself and having a goal during lockdown.

Exactly Catchat21 ...you’re not training for the olympics are you?? We have all come so far and it’s important that we enjoy ourselves, even if we are setting goals or experimenting with pace etc, it should still be fun

Absolutely Mummycav if we should remember anything at all, it should be the person we were before running, I know which version of me I prefer, for all sorts of reasons.

How are you?? I've missed your posts. How are your little red devils? I'm really interested in how you are finding them after having them for a good few runs now. Are they comfy still? Would they suit a wide foot? I may go for these as my next pair. Just checking you are all ok x

Hi Hidden ...I am still running in my Red Devils, although they have been more willing than me in this heat...I ran a 10k on 17th June and it was a bit pants if I’m honest..I was boiling and my legs were like lead and then a couple of days later I tried a 5k but that was like running through treacle...I was so disappointed with myself and really disheartened...questioning my ability and all that, I was going to post about them on here but I didn’t want people to think I was having a moan....although I have done before and everyone is so kind...but I just moaned on Strava and Garmin instead!! I had a couple of extra days rest and went out yesterday and ran just about 5k, I planned it for yesterday as it was supposed to be cooler and rainy...I’d set my alarm for 6.30 but woke up at 5.05am...straight up and into my running gear, stepped outside and boom, heat and emerging sunshine...did my inhaler, had some water...headphones and arm sleeve on and off I went...it wasn’t anything to write home about, felt hard and I was like a raspberry, I’m just rubbish at running in the heat I suppose...but it’s not going to stop me...I’ll just have a little sulk afterwards, a word with myself, bank the mileage and stamina and wait for the next run, like we all do...thank you for asking x

Love this! Hot weather is difficult for me too but it makes us feel like we can then run on any day in any element.

Glad you are still getting out and even if you've had tough runs they have been runs!

Keep on keeping on and being you 😊
