Getting into a rhythm on our runs.

Laura says at 5 mins you should be starting to feel like you are in a comfortable stride but for me it takes at least 8 minutes. Anyone else take a while to actually feel they are not dying, legs aren’t like lead and basically looking for any excuse to stop! I’ll be running 🏃🏼‍♀️ W8R2 tomorrow

I haven’t stopped in the journey so far, but W7 onwards has definitely made my mindset change. I don’t know if it’s because I’m running longer and my brain is putting in obstacles to make me want to stop 🛑

After a point in my run where I see the same tree branch that’s about 8 mins in, I start to run more naturally. Is it my brain or body? 🤯

I have got to say though today I came home feeling a lot better than I did after W7R3. Our brains have a lot to answer for don’t they!

I need to be positive. I can do this. I AM DOING THIS!

It’s definitely a mind over matter thing. I tend to ask myself two questions. Is my breathing ok and am I in any unbearable pain if not I’m fine. I just tell myself if anything serious happens I can always stop, but otherwise just get on with it. Once I get into my stride then, I kinda go into autopilot and just listen to my music 😊

Just remember, you are already a runner, you’ve got this far, what’s left to do is nothing compared to what you’ve already overcome. You’ve got this 😊

Sounds like you could be suffering from the "toxic 10". There are lots of posts on here about this. I still get it and tell myself that once I get past 10 mins I'll be okay.

Well done on your positive attitude and best of luck for the rest of your journey. :)

Thank you. I’ve not heard of it so will have a read up on it. Phew. Glad it’s not just me 👍🏻

This makes me feel a lot better about upcoming runs. I’m currently in week 3 and I’m already worried about running 5 minutes without stopping. Congrats to you!

It takes me around 10 mins to settle into the run. Up till then I have the devil on one shoulder telling me to stop and an angel on the other telling me I can do it! Thank goodness I listen to the angel!

The biggest leap for me was week 5R3. 20 mins just seemed impossible, and when Michael came on to tell me I’d done ten minutes I wanted to punch him! After that it really was mind over matter. I did it and it wasn’t terrible. Who’d have thought I’d ever run for 20 mins. I use the term ‘run’ loosely... ‘remember it’s a light jog..’ Thank you Michael Johnson 😎
