Well - that was an unmitigated disaster!

I'm on week 6 run 2. I didn't enjoy the return to interval runs on run 1 of week 6 and it seemed to last an eternity so I decided to try running with music for the first time ever. I created a short playlist of some of my favourite songs and set it going as I set off. I squeeze my phone into the back pocket of my shorts.

Then I realise I cant hear Michael talking so I turn it up the volume a bit on my headphones. Michael stops talking and whoa! that music is way too loud so I turn it down. I start the 5 minute warm up walk as instructed.

Then Michael starts talking - it happens to coincide with a break in the music. He says to start running so off I set.

I'm not sure the music is helping with my rhythm - the bpm and my cadence are all wrong. Still better carry on.

Then I just about hear Michael say I'm halfway through the first run. Great! That went quickly so maybe the music is helping after all.🙂

Then Michael starts talking again. I can't hear him. What's he saying? Is it time to stop and walk again? I try to fiddle with the volume control on my headphones but which way is up and which is down? Now I cant even hear the music.

So I'm trying to get my phone out of the back pocket of my shorts (its a tight fit) whilst still trying to run but I can't.

So I slow down to a walk. I finally adjust the volume so I can hear again and Michael is saying get ready to slow down to a walk,

Rats! I should have kept on running! I stopped too soon ☹️

I switch off the music so I know I will be able to hear Michael next time he speaks and put my phone back into my shorts pocket and start running again. But hang on. If I run now I won't get any rest before the next 10 minute run, so I start walking again.

When Michael tells me its time to start running again off I set. This feel OK - in fact good. I know I can keep going for another 10 minutes to the end. Yay!😀

This time I hear Michael perfectly when he says to stop running. I have enough in the tank to keep going but I don't.

I take my phone out of my back pocket to stop the c25K app. But hang on! Where's my door key?...

Nope it's not there. I must have pulled it out of my pocket when I was fiddling with my phone. Gah!!

Should I go back to look for it? No. I'm not entirely sure where I lost it and it probably won't still be there anyway.

So annoyed!

Now I have to get another door key cut - are key cutting places even open during lockdown?

And does this run count as I stopped running a minute too soon on the first interval? Should I repeat it before trying run 3?

I knew things were going way too well!

What an unmitigated disaster!😡

Oh my... well... the running was good. I’d not worry too much about the tiny missed bit, it wasn’t you that needed to stop.

Key workers weren’t key workers 🤪 but I believe they’re about to open again as the Timpsons at our local Tesco has had lines put on the floor for maintaining social distancing in the main queue for the supermarket. I believe Asda (and possibly other supermarkets) have a key cutting service though.

Ha ha!

Thanks.

Will just go for run 3 then and hope it's okay.

Plus see my reply to AlMor - I have my key back 😀

Sorry about losing your house keys, are you now home with spare keys or what?

Yes. My husband was at home so he was able to let me in.

And unbelievably I'm on a local neighborhood social media thing (don't do Facebook, Twitter or Instagram - only that and this forum) and somebody posted to say they found a key in the local woods - which is where I run.

So maybe not such a disaster. 🙂

Am tempted to just go for run 3 of week 6 and not repeat this one

Yes it seems funny in hindsight but I was furious just afterwards.

And I was totallyamazed to actually get my key back. My husband said I was wasting my time trying so that was a nice one over in him as well 😀

Onwards and upwards to run 3

I'd say go for it and, the great thing is, from now on in, there's no faffing around having to change between running and walking. I kind of ditched the podcasts at that point and just made up playlists that covered the length of time I was supposed to run. I did bring Sanjeev back out for my graduation run; it just wouldn't have seemed right not to, but that aside, weeks 7-9 were done to music alone in my case.

Good luck with the rest of your journey.

Thanks.

That's an interesting idea.

I think I might leave the music alone, at least for the next run and try downloading something spoken word. I tried a BBC Earth podcast for the longer run of last week and that seemed ok.
