Week7 Run1

First time posting on here but read it loads!!! I usually do my runs between 7-8am and as up until now there’s not too much running going on I generally have a couple of mouthfuls of coffee and small glass of water before I go out (I’m usually up 30 mins before run). Just wondered as it’s becoming more advanced is it wise to have something small to eat, maybe a banana, just to give me that extra fuel? Have been a complete novice up till now so any advice would be appreciated!! Am 54 btw so no spring chicken!!! Lol!

Are you feeling a lack of energy in the run? You shouldn’t need to fuel for a 30 minute run, so not for this plan... but if you are lacking then yes, a banana would probably suffice. I don’t consider fuelling until I have a run of over 10k coming up. A balanced healthy diet takes care of all other runs.

Hydration is a more likely issue in the heat... sipping water all day every day will do better than drinking water in the traditional sense.

In general I find a small snack after a run serves me better than anything I do before it... I generally have eggs as they’re basically fat and protein... so they satisfy any hunger while giving my muscles some protein for the recovery. My daughter prefers a slice of meat... similar thing going on, but I’m vegetarian.

If you’ve not already seen it, it’s never too late to read the guide to the plan healthunlocked.com/couchto5...

Happy running.

Thank you for your advice! I didn’t struggle as such but like anything new I’m wanting as many tips as I can get to do my run as best as I can! I shall keep up with the hydration though! Looking forward to my run 2 on Friday! 🏃‍♀️

I’m week 7 too.. well done to you 👏 I drink lots the day before.. aiming for 2.5l as I read on here hydration the key. I run first thing too at around 7am and just have a drink of water before I go out .. don’t normally eat anything until I’m home again. Good luck with your next runs.. if you’re on strava you can follow me.. be nice to support .. got a couple doing this on mine too 😊 I’m just on there as Liz O’Brien. Good luck

Yes drinking loads of water the day before really helps I’m a bit reluctant about drinking too much before my run in case I need a wee half way through!!! 😬😬 I’ve just downloaded Runkeeper as my work colleague who got me into running has got it!! Thanks for the info and keep it up!!! 🏃‍♀️🏃‍♀️
