Seems Strava a now going to start charging for some of the more basic info that had been included. What’s everyone’s thoughts. I appreciate they have a subscription, but I don’t feel I’m at that level of training. But did enjoy looking at some of my stats.
Strava charging : Seems Strava a now going to... - Couch to 5K
Strava charging
What information is it that you want? I use Nike Running Club which is free still and gives good information
I am also now looking for an alternative to Strava. Not worth the cost for me as all I want to do is see my pace and distance from my Garmin and compare data. I only used the matched runs facility. Would be great if there was alternative suggestions to me keeping an excel spreadsheet
How do you find Garmin data? I'm toying with paying for strava, but I'm also eyeing up a Garmin forerunner 35. I wondered whether I'd need both.
When you have a garmin device, you download the garmin connect app and that’s where all the data is stored. I prefer it to Strava. I had a 35. Great watch. I only upgraded so I could download music onto a watch.
Strava is too competitive for me. I use Nike run club which is good. Adidas has one as well
I do use an independent device and its amazfit app, so I have my data there. I only did uploads to strava to share the inspiration with some of my friends, so functionality change doesn't bother me much. I'm not competing with anyone or even myself, as I'm just starting to pick up the running back, so all the fancy board data and leaderships are really soooooo irrelevant to me 😂
I just liked looking at my match runs, particularly just now when I’m doing the same one.
Ah, that is what I found badly designed and unhelpful, as a graph with the interpretation of the statistics. As I've started records when I was still doing the intervals, the time/distance combination was "trending slower". Then, as I'm progressing, and I'd typically, do first run in a new week faster, second - slower, and third somewhere between, the algorithm scrambles older stuff from the time line and matches random week runs together. I think linear scale would represent my data better, so I can see where I am, whether this is weather and/or food/drink related, based on my linear historical data (and I can sort it out myself by any criteria later, if I wish to).
But, my approach to it now is "don't look a gift horse in the mouth" 😁 after all, my friends are inspired from my posts as I am inspired by their activities.
You can still see Matched Runs but only a limited number of them - i think 10 max
Yeah, mine disappeared when strava updated. I'm in two minds now. Would I rather pay, or try another app that may hassle me with push notifications and adverts?
Strava has my entire running history, and all my family are on it. It's not a huge amount and they say they're running at a loss, in spite of their popularity. A victim of their own success in offering so much for free.
Me too. From my C25K start nearly a year ago, to now. I’ve seen something that says £4 but if year paid for and with no work that’s not an option just now. Trying to see (begrudgingly)how much monthly after the two free months.
My matched runs did show, but it offered me a 2 month free trial of the paid features when I logged in today. I’ve taken that, and will decide in July whether to keep paying or not.
My stats hit Strava (and Nike Run Club) from Garmin connect... I think that I’m happy with the changes, segments leaderboards are a stupid idea, I’ll be very pleased to not be able to see them... it’ll be better still if they hide segments from me completely. Of course, that means people with my mindset will never subscribe, which probably isn’t what they want 🤣. I did my free trial and a month on premium... didn’t rate their running plans, beacon was useless to me as I don’t have my phone with me on most runs these days, and the other little bits and pieces I had access to really weren’t worth the money. I prefer the Nike plans... they adapt to my abilities without showering me in PBs here there and everywhere, and I can see enough stats. They have guided runs (which are amazing) and don’t share my data with anyone... I even have to choose to share anything but my weekly milage with buddies, as there’s no default to do that.
I think that Strava is the Facebook of running apps, and as I hate FB, I wouldn’t be bothered if I deleted Strava completely... I only use it for the odd run with a friend who’s over 100 miles away.
I don’t like the competitiveness of Strava. I’ve changed my settings to private and unfollowed everyone. I was always comparing myself to others, and feeling down that I could never be what others are. I tend to use garmin more now anyway.
