Week 6 run 1

I ran for 20 mins, w5 r3 and was delighted with myself but today I couldn’t complete w6r1. I’m gutted but I just didn’t have enough in the tank for the last two minutes and I was running slow. My breathing was fine but my legs just felt like lead and I couldn’t push through😢 Anyone else have this happen, I’m feeling deflated

It's really common to get caught out by this run, don't worry (and believe me, you can run more slowly) Not sure where you are but it has been bloomin' hot in much of the UK and that alone is enough to catch a person out.

Thanks for that, I ran early this morning but it was still quite warm. I fear if I run any slower I’ll be walking but I’ll go again on Friday....thanks for the reply

It's not the pace that makes something running or walking, it is the difference in motion. So that's one thing you don't need to worry about.

That's a relief, I can walk much faster than I "run". I had the exact thing as Ted649, was so pleased I did the 20 minutes, then my legs felt like lead after the first run in wk 6 run 1 but by the end I seemed to pick up and I did finish it.

It certainly is the run that catches people out the most. Don't feel deflated you only missed it by two minutes. Maybe take the early parts very easy next time. I'm sure you'll smash it next time. If you need motivation just look back at where you were five short weeks ago. You've come a long way already.

Very true, 5 weeks ago I had to repeat week 1 run 1, this is only the second time I’ve had to repeat a run. Thanks for the encouragement, I’ll keep this is mind on Friday and true and push through it

Looking forward to hearing you’ve smashed it on Friday! Good luck. I’m W5D3. Just about to go out. I was worried.....now I’m worried about W6D1 😂

Come back Friday and update us. Xx

Like GoogleMe says that run caught a lot of us out . After running for 20 minutes the run before . Can I just add are you keeping well hydrated , at least 2-3 litres of water per day and not just on run days and maybe even a bit more just now as it's so warm 😊😊

Ted649 profile image
Ted649 in reply toBuddy34

Gosh, thanks for that, I drink no where near that. I probably only drink 1 litre a day if that so I’ll definitely have to start drinking a lot more. I wasn’t even aware of this, I just drank loads on the day of my actual run.

It will really help with the heavy legs👍

Me too, Ted649, I never feel the need to take on a lot of fluids so I will have to make a conscious effort now. I can walk all day on a half litre of water. I found wk 3 run 1 very hard so I went back and re-did wk 2 run once and since then had no problems until wk 6 run 1 which I did yesterday. Phew it was warm!

Good for you, I’m hoping I’ll be writing a similar post 2moro 🏃‍♀️ 👍👍

I’ve started using empty squash bottles as they are 1 litre so I can track how much I am drinking. Makes a huge difference for me

I found similar - I did week 5 run 3 which was better than expected and then found week 6 run 1 much harder, though I had been expecting to find it really easy!

Yes this happened to me last week! Just take 5 and repeat the run in 2 days, slowing it right down, the 2 x 10 was a lot easier for me and the I was back on track! Don't give up you did so well to only come up 2 minutes shy

I did that on Tuesday and really struggled from about 2 mins into the 8 min run. Legs felt so heavy and couldnt get any rhythm at all. I was "running" slower than my brisk walk by the end but just about held on. You can do it 😁

It’s happened to me too but put it down to an off day. Sometimes you’re tired, it’s too hot or whatever and this makes a difference. Just repeat and don’t beat yourself up about it!

I did W5R3 last Saturday and was delighted then a throbbing pain started in my left ankle on Sunday and I've not been out since. I'm gutted. I think I'll need to take at least a week off as it's still not right. Thanks for your post as it's always good to hear how others are getting on. Sounds to me like you've learned a lot in doing W6R1 and there's also a lot of great advice here too. Im sure next time you will go out and smash it! Please keep us posted.

I had to make 3 attempts during week 6 so dont give up. It was the tips and support on here that kept me going! You are doing great😎

Thank you, the encouragement is great. I’m going to drink plenty of water today and try again 2moro......watch this space

Thanks

Same thing happened to me its so frustrating. I do then find it hard to stay in a positive frame of mind. I usually have a couple of days off and then go back out. This usually works for me. Dont give up just write that one off as a bad day and forget about it.

My husband has just done exactly the same thing and obviously was disappointed. He said it was by far the hardest run he had done and missed a minute off it as he couldn't continue.

You will get there! Good luck!

Hi

I’m about to repeat W6R2 for the 3rd time as I just can’t do it!! Ran W5R3 fine and now this one has me stuck!!

SmilelikeImeanIt profile image

It’s surprising how hard Wk 6 R1 is! You think it’ll be easy after Wk 5 R3 but it really isn’t. I joined this forum in Wk 5, but didn’t see the comments on Wk 6 R1 til after doing it.

Have at least a day’s rest, plenty of water and try again. Make sure to do the dynamic stretches before the run as they really help with calf pain. You nearly did it anyway!

The heat at the moment is making it much harder. I’m repeating Week 7 so on my 5th 25 min run yesterday and still struggled - which I’m sure was because of the heat.

Not really a morning person but I’m going to have to get up early if want to get it done tomorrow I think.

I found Week 6 Run 1 hard too. I did manage to complete it but found it really hard to get going. Thanks for the tips about drinking more water. It is really hot at the moment. I can’t believe I am on Week 6 . Furthest I ever got before was Week 2 and always in awe of people who got much further. Dare I say I’m even enjoying it 😂

I just got passed w6r1, it was absolutely horrific. It was, by far, the worst run of them all. The last few minutes was not pretty!! Don't be disheartened by not finishing the last few minutes... Its still a damn sight further than you could run six weeks ago!! Keep it up and try again x

Hi Ted I’ve just posted the same thing and then I read your post. I had the same on this run and the feeling of being deflated after, especially as I’m used to feeling a great sense of achievement when I complete the runs which I definitely didn’t have on Tuesday!!

Like others have said look at how far you’ve come. We won’t let this beat us. Good luck, I hope you have a great next run and get your stride back. x

I’m finding week 6 really tough. I had been elated to complete W5 R3 and thought I was finally getting somewhere but this week has been really hard.

I’ve lacked a bit of motivation and I felt really slow and tired whilst doing the first 2 runs of week 6. I’m hoping I feel more in the zone for the next few as it’s definitely stepping up a notch!

Bubbles2020 profile image

Exactly the same happened to me, I was on such a high having completed the 20 min run then the stop start of the next run felt like a backwards step. However do persevere as soon it is all non stop runs

Yes that was my worst run after the 20mins before. My legs hurt a bit for few days after. I thinking maybe I used have an extra day of test for legs to recover in hind sight. Just did my first 25mins run and found.that easier my legs had obv recovered!

I found week 6 run 1 really hard, managed it but only just! Run 2 went really well, hoping for a positive outcome on Saturday when I do run 3!

A lot of us have felt this way - I was practically on my knees when I finished this run, heading out optimistically as I had obviously just completed my 20 minute run two days before without too much bother. What a change! I have already written about this, so may I suggest you read my previous comment and replies... It gets better - honest!
