Lockdown boredom

How is everyone staying motivated during lockdown? I find I'm alternating between walking and running but am getting bored with the same old routes. Should I dust off my bike? Exercises at home?

Alternating between walking and running is good. But you can also vary the runs - even if you can’t vary the routes much you can do longer slower runs, shorter faster runs, speed intervals etc. The route isn’t the only thing you can change to keep it interesting.

Plug in to an audiobook or podcast or go out with a (socially distanced) buddy maybe

I was getting bored with the same routes so I bought an OS map and have discovered lots of new routes. Now that we can drive to an exercise, it has opened up even more routes.

I thought that I knew all the footpaths within two miles of my home, until I started running and then I discovered all sorts of wonderful new routes.

I would bet that there are loads of new routes you could explore if you check them out on a map beforehand.

Regarding maps, you can subscribe to Ordnance survey (just over £20 a year, worth it for me as I'm out and about on a regular basis, pre lockdown that is, ordnancesurvey.co.uk) or paper maps are about £8 each.

Or if you want to check out your local area or where you're going then streetmap.co.uk is a free to use website, zoom in to 1:25k or 1:50k and you'll get the OS version of the area. Put postcode or place name in to search.

Thanks for all the replies ... I know the area around me like the back of my hand - I live rurally. Got on my bike for the first time in awhile today and really enjoyed it because of the fitness running has given me. So I think a rotation between, running, walking and cycling is probably the way forward ... now we can go out longer, then maybe the cheeky combo of cycling somewhere and then going for a run might also work. Stay safe folks 👍

Try Mr Motivator's Daily Dozen on YouTube, it's around 10 minutes of different exercises each day and it's fun!
