Benchmark and lockdown

Well in grudging admiration for a government I don’t really support but respect, New Zealand is going into a 4 week lockdown starting tomorrow at midnight, today we continue to learn what that means but ultimately it will prevent this awful situation that we find ourselves in getting much worse and for that I am in full support of the government and applaud the courage it has taken to make this decision. We are told that we will be allowed to exercise which is a relief because in the absence of a lot of other activity I intend to do a lot of it (silver linings and all that!)

This morning I did my Tuesday benchmark and started the Garmin coached 10k plan. Recently I have gone from being able to run comfortably for 30 minutes to being able to run comfortably for 5k so I’m now considering dropping the 30 minute runs and doing 5k twice a week with a bit extra on the third run, will see how that fits in with the Garmin coaching. I’m determined to use this time productively in as many ways as I can and really focusing on my fitness level is one of them!

Happy running everyone 😁

Tim

Good luck - we are also on lockdown here in France, but, at the moment, we are allowed to run, so I am working my way back up after injury.

You can find support for getting to 10K on the bridge to 10k forum, where you will see many names you recognise if you want to go there. They also run a group for moving from 5k to 10k that you could join, or you could just do your own thing.

Good luck!

So many runners across the world in lock down - it does make you appreciate the freedom. Take care out there in New Zealand...from sunnyish UK. :-)

Hi Rigpig, I think our government in fact will be following your government's decision very soon mainly I think because there are many people who either don't understand the severity of the problem or are just plain selfish. We were actually due to drive to France today but I'm currently busying myself with long overdue jobs - not quite as enjoyable.

Thankfully I live in a rural'ish' location so am going to carry on running for as long as I can - it's helping me a lot. To get out in the fresh air is an enormous help to me.

Great that your running distance is increasing and times improving. Are you not carrying on with the Magic 10? I'd be interested to know how the Garmin 10k programme differs?

Carry on posting. Take care and stay healthy.

I am sort of carrying on with the magic 10, I just need to find my own way to do it. I’m not really enjoying to long runs yet but I’m getting there, the difference between my first 5k and my most recent is really quite significant so I know I’m making progress but with all that’s been going on I lost a bit of focus and I’m going to use this time to reset and improve. I will be able to do some form of outdoor exercise every single day with not many people around and I’m very much looking forward to it.

You take care as well, I’ve been following events in the UK closely and it’s pretty incredible to see how some people are carrying on.

Well done on the progress of running 5k comfortably. You are moving forward and that is great. Best of luck with the new plan my friend. You will get there and get stronger! Look after yourself.

Well done on your running, sounds like you are making great progress. I think we’ll be locked down here in the UK soon because people are not heeding the advice to stay indoors. I’m hoping that we’ll still be able to run 🤞 Take care.
