GPS advice please

Hello, I've been using Strava on my ipod to track my runs. This week I changed routes and have been running down a country lane for half my route. To my disappointment, I must have lost GPS so only half my run was recorded! Is there any way round this apart from changing routes?!

Hi. Try running your route again and see if GPS picks it up this time. It is possible that it was only a temporary glitch in GPS coverage rather than it being a blackspot. I had a couple of runs where GPS was very patchy and I ended up with data from Strava which suggested I'd be an Olympic athlete if the results were for real! I think you were probably just unlucky rather than in a permanent blackspot. It would be a shame to avoid a route you like, especially if coverage in your area is usually good.

Assume you mean the GPS signal dropped out, rather than you physically lost it?

I do similar with my iPhone. I initially found I was having issues (with the C25k app) which I put down to random things getting pressed with it bouncing around in my pocket. I found locking it solved those issues.

I wouldn’t expect GPS to drop out on country roads/paths, the usual problem areas are city’s where the view of the sky is impeded.

As someone said, do the route again and see if the GPS tracks, it’s always possible you’ve device just glitched.

I tend to have patchy connection with gps/glonass under the trees. It looks then like I had a short stop and a short burst on the graph afterwards.

Yes! According to Strava I would be doing 5K in twenty minutes!!! 😀 I will just chill and do the route, but I would like to map my progress.

Hopefully Strava will pick up your run next time. I like having a record of my runs too. After Strava promoted me to Wonderwoman a few times with completely unrealistic PBs to strive to repeat, I decided to treat myself to a runners watch after my graduation. I’m pleased to say there haven’t been any GPS glitches with it 😆! Enjoy your runs 😊🏃🏼‍♀️.

Hi Delly-dot, I was looking at the running watches. Which one did you go for?

Hi. I looked around and asked the forum too. Garmin was the out and out winner. I went for the Forerunner 45s and am delighted with it.

hi i’ve found my app stops, not because of bad signal but because i went into another app it took a photo on route. so i spent one run taking lots of photos of my route and now just leave the app running on lock without checking it

This happens to me with Strava sometimes. I have an iPhone and do this which sometimes helps: go to settings; privacy - switch location services off then on again. That ‘reboots’ the gps.

Thanks, I'll try that 😁
