I hope that you are all doing well and enjoying your runs? Me: I am getting out three times a week, and although very much enjoying every run, I am finding that my perceived effort is a lot higher right now. I was reassured to see an article in Runners World magazine about this: apparently many people are feeling like their runs are a wee bit harder at the moment, as even a bit low-level anxiety can affect your energy levels. But, we carry on, because we know how good running is for our health, both physical and mental.
So, this week's book recommendation is another by writer and sports presenter and all round lovely bloke, Vassos Alexander. His first book, "Don't Stop Me Now" was mostly about marathon running, but this one focuses on even more impressive feats of distance running! And it is really interesting and highly entertaining. I particularly loved reading about his experience of the Spartathlon, a race that takes in the 250km from Athens to Sparta. Now, I seriously doubt that I will ever run an ultra, but, I am so fascinated about these kinds of races and the different challenges they bring.
Oh, and I love this book's cover design!
Take care everyone.

Yes loved his first book too Sadie-runs, and now he is also doing the great parkrun quiz every Saturday morning so I know what he looks like.
There was an amusing song on local radio this morning about being lockdown lazy, where he drew up a list of all the things he was going to do with this extra time, but hasn’t achieved any of Them . I can relate to that. 😂😂
I am still doing my physio though, and getting out for a walk or cycle.
Oh dear, I think I was a bit lockdown lazy, too. But, not now - I managed to get myself a new job in the 2nd week of lockdown, so am chained to a computer working weekdays now. Grateful to have a job, but missing being a lady of leisure! 😢
I hope your recovery is going well, dear Dexy? Lovely to hear that you can now get active cycling and walking! That will stand you in very good stead for when you return to running. Wishing you all the very best! 😘
It IS great news, and a great job - working on kids books. 👍 But I must admit I loved not working. 😂 I hope that you are well? (Despite the madness/awfulness/sadness of the world right now). xxx
Yes thanks Sadie, our little household is keeping well I’m thankful to say. 😄
Children’s books!! - one of my passions! - with at least 2 of my hats on!😄 It will take a while to adjust to your different life style - even without Covid19..,.
Very glad to hear you and your family are well, dear Elfe. 😘 Yes, adjusting to work again is tough...remotely, even tougher! Two hats? 🤔 And I am totally fluffed off with Covid-19 now. I still cannot get my head around the enormity of it all - have even started Headspace meditation just to try and keep calm. xxx
Mum hat & primary school teacher hat( recently retired). - Children’s books and, of course, sharing them with children, have given me a huge amount of pleasure for decades.
Calming meditation sounds a good plan. - I have taken to meditating & praying in the conservatory! Be kind to yourself as you adjust to your new life pattern. 😄xxx
Ah ha, that makes sense! I knew from the very start of my career that I wanted to be in children’s books...having always had my nose in them as a child myself. Witnessing a child’s reading skills develop always seems like magic to me!
Thank you for your kind words. ♥️ Running, yoga and mindfulness are kind of keep me in some kind of balance, for now. Stay well, dear Elfe. xxx
Thanks for the book tip Sadie, I will look out for the audiobook version of that one for listening on my runs. . . and yes certainly enjoying my runs at the moment, even more now I can drive to my favourite countryside running route 👍😃
You’re welcome. 😁 I find his books very entertaining! A book or a podcast can be a great distraction on a long run. Glad to hear you are enjoying your runs! I am finding running to be a great soothing balm right now; being in nature really helps. 👍
