Congratulations on completing run 2 of week 7, not long now until you graduate.

That is really quick! Apparently only 10% of people actually manage the 5k in 30 mins and you are going to smash it. I am starting week 9 today and only about 0.4k off at 28 mins so fingers crossed but I am a lot older than you and have to get through a lot of pain and niggles and haven’t run for decades! You must keep going after all this as you could be a really good runner.

Thanks for the message, I’m really going to try, easy at the moment being Furloughed 😩 My day job is flat out, I’m away a lot but the trainers can always come too!!

Good luck, I hope you get there!! 🤞in fact no hoping, you can do it !! 💪

Well done on completing the run. A word of warning, if your legs are hurting, I would slow down, as you maybe on the way to injury. I speak from experience, I run at a similar pace to you, about 5k in 25 mins, and over the weeks I have continued to push to get a little faster and it has always ended up on the IC. I have just completed C25K for the 3rd time, after recovering from my latest injury, a stress fracture!!

Cheers V.

How long did it take for you to recover from the stress fracture. I am certain that’s what I have after self diagnosis on google. I’m trying to be very good and not think about running until the end of May. Any advice?

Hello Sfb061, I gave myself a stress fracture in September 2019 (confirmed by x-ray) and I didn't start running again till February 2020. I could have probably started sooner, maybe end of December but got out of the routine. Once it does start to heal, it will often respond well to mild exercise, just some moderate load. Mine was on my right shin bone, at the start it was really quite painful to walk and then over time just continually felt bruised and I had a lump on the bone, which has only recently disappeared. Does your injury sound similar?

Hi Visionon. Yes. That’s exactly it. I walked yesterday and it started aching at 3 miles (nearly home) and it aches today. I have a small lump on the inside of my shin. I am doing stretches and tried to find MarkyD’s link for self massage but this is for shin splints.

Yep sounds exactly the same as mine, and the same place as well, the inside of the shin. I am afraid no form of exercise is going to help, it is now just a matter of time... Sorry as I know how incredibly frustrating it is.

Thank you Visionon. I have no choice but to try and be very good. It took me a year to graduate, another few months won’t hurt. Happy running.

Same to you, best of luck!

Thanks for the warning. I do cycle a lot too on my rest days so today doing nothing but a walk so seeing if that makes a different ?

Sounds like you do a great deal! I would ensure that your muscles get the rest that they need after each run, as you are still a relatively new runner. As you probably know, the reason that muscles feel bruised after exercise if that the exercise causes micro tears in the muscle fibres and they need the time off to repair.

Hope all goes well.

You are doing so well, well done. I’m aiming to do the same run on Friday but a bit slower I will be happy with anything over 4K with run and warm up/down walks.

You’ve got to be happy with that! I completed W8R2 last night covering 5.4k and I’m over the moon with that. Currently sat with my left calf on my shiatsu massager pillow so that I can hopefully walk properly today though 😂

Keep up the good work and best of luck with the next couple of weeks and graduation 💪🏽
