Im still on week 1 and don’t know how I’ll every be able to run more than 60 seconds at a time!! I’m overweight and unfit - does it get easier???
Does it get easier??!?!: Im still on week 1 and... - Couch to 5K
Does it get easier??!?!
Hi 👋🏼 I’m new here I’m on w2 I’m also overweight and extremely unfit. So far I still find it very hard!
But I did surprise myself with the week 2 runs. Take it super slow and try not to think about the length too much as you’re going.
I like to tell myself “your legs are going to love you for moving them so much!” while I’m jogging and in pain 😂
You can do it!
It definitely gets easier! My first week I think I was running to fast & stamping my feet down, so I slowed down & changed my running style! Look up Japanese slow running on you tube! I do my Wk5 run 2, today & looking forward to the milestone run on Tuesday! Up to week 3, I managed all the runs but thought there is no way I will manage 30 mins, but Week 4, it started to make sense & I found I was getting stronger in the last part of the run! 🤞this continues! Good luck with your journey! You can do it! 💪
When you are running for 30 continuous minutes in just a few weeks time.......yes, you will be.........then running for 60 seconds will seem very, very easy.
As you say, you are still on Week One and so you will not feel much change yet, but in a couple of weeks time you will be recovering much more quickly and coping with it all much more easily. Our bodies are amazing and adapt remarkably quickly to the demands, so stick with it.
Please read the guide to the plan and follow the advice on stretching after every run, minimising impact and hydration all of which are crucial.
I’m not really overweight but I still thought I was dying during week 1. Best advice? Slow right down, then slow down some more. On my first run I gasped to my daughter “ is it 60 seconds yet?”
“No mum... it’s only 19 so far” . 😫
Don’t worry about how fast you are- remember you should be able to carry on a conversation, so if you cannot, you are going too fast. At one point my walk was the same speed as my run 😡
Yes it does get easier and you’ll find you get to week 4 or 5 and look back at how hard the first week felt and be amazed
Good luck
You will manage it, take your time as it’s not a race. The hardest part is starting and you’ve already done so give yourself a pat on the back. Remember you’ll always be lapping the people still sat on the couch. Keep going, you’ve got this 💪
It does get easier.... Running continuously for 30 minutes doesn't seem possible at the start. But in a few months time you'll be shocked at your progress.
If it is too tough take the runs a little bit slower. Find something to distract your mind from running..... Personally I enjoy listening to a good book or podcast then my feet just do the work.
I'm on week 1, due to do run 3 tomorrow.. I found my 2nd run hard but looking forward to run 3 tomorrow. I've allowed an extra day recovering because I was aching so bad on run 2 😭 I am also overweight but the high after my first 2 has helped me think about my food/alcohol consumption also. Keep going, we've all got to start somewhere 🤷♀️ (I'm new to this website.. Not too sure how it works so figuring it all out)
Oh Sarah, you’ve already done the hardest part and actually got out there!
Keep going and as everyone says, take it slowly, and you will be amazed at how in a couple of weeks time you will be saying “60 seconds? Pft!”
Stay with it, you’ll get there, trust the plan!
No, it gets much harder and no-one ever completes it... <wink>
All those 'graduate' badges on here are only attached to the names of the young, fit and svelte who are really Olympic athletes under cover, definitely no chronically ill, overweight, previously underconfident folk <wink, wink>
You can do this.
