Does it get easier?!

Morning... I got up and went for my run this morning while I had the chance to bag it in - had I thought about it I could have attempted a parkrun but was too late! Anyways... I did it and have now completed week 7 but I’m not exactly loving the longer runs and finding them tough... I’ve got through each one, jogging the duration and made myself go out each time but as I progress to graduation - will it get easier and possibly more enjoyable?! I felt motivated and driven in the earlier weeks - I guess when I felt I was maybe nailing them a bit better but now... not so much!

Hi Teeny! In answer to your post, yes it will eventually get easier. We’re all different and we all react to these runs differently. Week 7 was my biggest hurdle, even bigger than W5R3. The mental hurdle is difficult to overcome, to actually accept that from now on your expected to run continuously. It’s a huge task and your bound to find it daunting or emotionally draining.

I personally find enjoyment at seeing my progression. That’s the beauty of running, pushing our bodies to the limit, to the point where we feel like we can’t go on and then going further still.

There are days where I struggle, and feel uninspired when I’m out. I just keep telling myself I can do. The more you run, the more you’ll improve and the more you can relax into. Enjoy the adrenaline pumping through you and the acknowledgement that at the end of it, you’ve done yourself proud x

Honestly for me it is more enjoyable weeks 7 and 8 were a struggle then week 9 something just changed don't know what but I really do love running . So good luck to you 😊😊

Are you running too fast? Search Japanese slow jogging movement on youtube and you’ll find a great short film showing a low impact slow running technique. This style of running absolutely turned things around for me and made running so much more enjoyable. And I still get all the health & fitness benefits. Check it out and try it for your first w8 run and see how it feels. You can always work on pace a few months down the line if you want. But for this to work for you and for you to stick at it you’ll need to find a way to enjoy it! So embrace the snail and see how you get on! 💪🐌🏃‍♀️

Great work. This plan keeps pushing your fitness level up, and does that by taking you to the limits of it often... yeah, it’s tough. Once you’ve graduated, the best thing to do is to do some consolidation... run 30 minutes until it’s comfortable... at that point I then went out to run deliberately slowly, and there it was... an easy run... an amazing run. So it does get easier, once you’ve completed the hard work of the plan. Any future plan that you follow may be about going on to longer times and distances, but it won’t be every run, some runs will be short. Keep up the good work, you’re almost there.

SLOW DOWN!!!!!

It will still build stamina, but will actually be enjoyable.

Most runners do have a masochistic streak, but pushing hard all the time is the best way to become disenchanted.

After graduation you don't have to continue upping the ante each week......unless you want to.

I really don’t think I’m going very fast! I’d say I’m going pretty slow as I sometimes question myself as to if it’s ‘running’?!! I will try to go even slower on W8R1 and also need to drink more water! Thanks all!

I don't think it was until week 8/9 when something just clicked and I actually started enjoying the runs and become totally addicted to running. Keep on going!
