It hurts already, can you help?

New to all this so I was quite pleased with myself for completing day 1, run 1 yesterday. Only I can hardly move today! πŸ˜† my thighs are killing and it hurts to get up or down from a chair and to go down stairs!!

Without sounding defeatist already, I’m worried for run 2! πŸ˜³πŸ¦΅πŸΌπŸƒπŸ½β€β™€οΈπŸ€£ any advice or tips you think might help are gratefully received. x

Congratulations on starting C25K with run 1 of week 1 and welcome to the forum, it's all to do with you starting to run that today you can hardly move and your thighs are killing you, I would advise you to take a extra day off before running the second run of week 1, drink plenty of water the day before you run and also just before you run, also, run it a little slower than you did the first time.

Thank you, I wondered if an extra day off might help, I’ll try that then I can be more positive for my next run x

Sounds like you might be running too fast. Check out Japanese slow running on YouTube.

Also, make sure you do some warm down stretches when you get home and before your muscles get cold. They will help with your blood flow. Warm baths might help too.

As AlMorr says, take an extra rest day - and it will get easier. πŸ‘

I felt the same! I've done r2 today and yes it hurt like heck but felt better at the end. Not as sore either. I think our bodies are adjusting to the exercise change. Good luck with run 2 x

Have you read the guide to the programme?

healthunlocked.com/couchto5...

It's important not to push too hard. Slow and steady is the way.

Keep it up though, you're doing great πŸ‘πŸ»πŸ˜

Thanks for this, I have now read through it and downloaded some after run stretches to do next time too.

Like others say, it sounds like you may be going too fast during the runs. It's probably a good idea to take an extra day off. Also, did you do stretches after your run? They really help. And good hydration πŸ™‚

Good luck with the rest of your runs! πŸƒπŸƒβ€β™€οΈπŸƒπŸƒβ€β™€οΈ

Welcome to the forum and well done on getting started.

This guide to the plan is essential reading healthunlocked.com/couchto5...

and includes advice on minimising impact, stretching after every run, hydration and strengthening exercises, all of which will help.

Enjoy your journey.

I’m on week 2, completed first run tonight and it was hard, I think for me is a combination of being 2 stone heavier than the last time I ran and being a couch potato. Week was was hard but on 3rd run it was easier. Now I feel week two is hard again 😫 but I’m determined to lose weight good luck x

Thanks and well done, I’m doing it to get fitter and lose weight too so I’m quite determined too. Have now done run 2 and added some stretches so feeling much better and motivated.

Very true, I have to say, taking on all the advice I was given on here I’ve now completed run 2, along with some stretches and feel fine today. Like you say, take one run at a time. Good luck
