Weight update :-)

I've now lost 21 lbs or 9.4 KG's since starting Couch to 5K last November which seems like quite a lot but isn't the whole story. My body shape has changed a fair bit, not a lot of wobbly bits left. I'm 6ft 2 inch so didn't look really fat, I just had a big belly :-) But I have gone from wearing tight 40" waist clothes (I refused to buy 42") down to 36" which are still a bit tight but getting less so every week. I started at 122.2 KGs and I'm now 112.8 KG's My first goal is 105KG's and I set myself until next December to reach it so it looks like I'm well ahead of the curve on doing that. If you give such things much credence, It won't be long before my BMI drops from obese to merely fat :-)

The important thing is I can run comfortably for 30 minutes and enjoy doing it, I have decided to keep doing the 30 minutes for a while as I'm seeing definite improvements in pace and distance, I tried longer runs for a bit but they really took it out of me and I put that down to carrying a lot of extra weight and will look at increasing the distance again in the not too distant future.

If you are just starting out and wanting to lose weight the program works, it makes you actually proud of yourself and it's a lot easier to make better eating decisions when you feel great. I have not changed my eating much because I didn't eat a lot of junk but I did eat big portions and a lot of it was carbs, I have switched out a lot of things and eat much less bread but still have a decent sized dinner every evening. I don't feel as though I'm depriving myself of anything.

It's been 5 months, I know that may seem a long time but the slow game is the way to go, be consistent enjoy your running and eat well and the changes will happen before you know it.

Happy Running Everybody :-)

Tim

Well done, Rigpig. I hope you feel really proud of your toned bod. It is very inspiring and motivating. Those figures and impressive but more about how you do not feel deprived. Keep happy, healthy and take care. :-)

Thanks Buddy, I haven’t been on the scales for a while and had a pleasant surprise this morning. Quite a big drop since the last time 😊

I used to weigh myself every month, started in may 2018 and did this for a year now like you I don't bother with the scales now as they wouldn't be much use as we build muscle from running, that's my thoughts anyway. The smaller size clothes say it all 😊

Well your post is a real motivation to those of us who are a bit out of shape and are early on, or at the beginning of this journey. I’m similar to you (except I’m a short arse) in that I’m not hugely overweight but have a bit of a belly. I eat reasonably well with little junk food but the portion size could be reduced a bit. I’m on W7R2 and have actually put a little weight on so far despite running every other evening for the past 7 weeks. My Mrs says it’s muscle and I can see my legs in particular starting to tone up but can’t help looking at the scales and wondering when I’ll see that weight start to drop off around my trunk.

Anyway well done to you. Definitely something to be proud of and good luck in achieving your goals.

It is muscle, exactly the same thing happened to me. My legs are now quite toned. The time passes and the weight comes off but I would really recommend that you start measuring your waist, hips, thighs and chest as that’s where you will see the changes happening more than on the scales. And of course your cloths will get steadily looser. The program works but it’s a longer game than you might think but gosh it’s worth it 😁

Great advice. I’ll get the tape measure out and not obsess over the scales 👍🏽

Great post, Tim. So great that you are noticing changes. I totally agree with you, the slow game is far better - more healthily and more likely to be a change for life. Well done on your progress!

Fantastic, Rigpig!

What resonates with me is being proud of yourself, enabling you to make better health decisions. So true!

Lockdown is a bit different though. As a lifelong yoyo dieter, I was avoiding getting on the scales during lockdown as I know I haven't been making the healthiest diet choices. I braved it this week and found I have put on ... nothing! Siltch! I'm the same weight I was five weeks ago! I had to get on and off the scales several times before I believed it (I've mostly been wearing joggers, so no clothes to go by), but it's true. And the difference is running.

It's been 8 months for me. The term 'life changing ' is overused, but c25k has truly been life changing. I'm so glad it has been for you too. Stay safe. X

Totally agree with you regarding lockdown, It takes an iron will to be disciplined at the moment when the only thing you can buy is food! :-)

That's great. Inspiring. I'm about to start week 6. Doing c25k (consistently) and one of those fat busting apps (inconsistently) and lost 6 or 7 lbs as of this morning. What you say about eating is true...when you feel better about yourself, and see the weight come off, it is easier to resist those snacks.

Very well done to you. My goal is to lose 25-30lbs and you've encouraged me. Thanks for posting.

It works, it's not quick but your body changes as you progress, your metabolism increases and time passes before you know it. Just be aware that you may seem to add some weight as your muscles grow. Take measurements now and you will have a better idea how you are doing :-)
