Hi all

New to running - got through weeks 1-4 okay, slight twinge in left knee end of week three. W5R3 made 14 minutes but my left knee was so painful I had to stop. Been really painful ever since (a week now). Tried to do W5R1 again but knee stopped me. Really want to get going again. Anyone else experienced similar? Any advice gratefully received! So frustrated!!!!!!

Thanks

Hi, I’m not sure if this is helpful or not. But I was really suffering the first few weeks with terrible knee pain. My trainers were really old running ones so I bought some more (Asics from their outlet sight, paid about £40) I can’t tell you the difference this has made. Absolutely no pain since using these.

Hello, I had some aches and pains and got to week 4, my husband took me to get gait analysed and I bought some trainers with specific support and it really helped. It’s difficult to shop in the current situation but you could look online for some advice. Good luck

Welcome to the forum and well done on your progress.

This guide to the plan is essential reading healthunlocked.com/couchto5...

and includes advice on minimising impact, stretching after every run, hydration and strengthening exercises, all of which will help.

Knee pain is very common amongst new runners.

Enjoy your journey.

I would suggest gait analysis to get the correct shoes. Is your knee sore descending stairs? Chondromalacia? Rest, NSAIDS and patellar strapping some exercise physio/sports medicine help for analysis if persisits.
