Terrified of starting week 3

Did week two. No idea how. It was not pretty, and a real struggle, but did it. Terrified of week three now I have seen I am making a jump from 90 seconds to three minute spurts. Should I repeat another week two run, or two, so am more comfortable, before progressing to week three training. I am currently running every other day. Thank you!

In what way did you struggle?

My breathing is ok, just struggling to get one foot in front of each other. Feel really heavy. Am drinking litres of water (drink at least three litres a day, always have), having half a banana before a run for energy etc.

If I were you I would first try to run W3R1 and depending on the result either continue with W3 or go back to W2.

Be curious, try it first and then draw conclusions, not the other way around. 😎

I hope you will find it useful.

I am in the same point as you but facing W5 now... I will have a go at it... and if it is too much I will repeat W4. 😁

Thank you. That’s good advice!

I had the same issue but managed to push through. You can always go back and repeat a week; I just did week 8 twice and am now nervously going on to week 9. Never thought I'd get this far and sometimes it's a real struggle but I'm glad I stuck with it.

If it helps, you will be running for exactly the same overall duration in W3 as you did in W2..........think of the overall workout, don't just focus on the running..........the brisk walking is building your stamina too.

Perhaps this post about mental approach will help you... healthunlocked.com/couchto5...

There is nothing to be terrified about.

It is a training plan, not the Spanish Inquisition!

Totally understand your dread. I had been worried about week 3 for many days but finally went for it today. The idea of running double the length made me panic but it went surprisingly fast and it makes the 90 you do in between feel a lot more manageable. You can do it! Try the first week 3 run and then you’ll know how you cope, just do what you can.

PS - personally, Jo Whiley is amazing to listen to on week 3, she gives personal off-script advice and really is a friendly voice in times of struggle. She got me through. Good luck! x
