Started to mix my runs up today opting for a shorter, but faster, run.

It certainly was a different kind of workout. My heart rate was higher than on my usual run.

Next run I will revert back to my normal time and distance.

Well done - it's good to mix up your runs and you will hopefully see a knock on improvement in your overall pace.

Have you tried including 'fatleks' (Swedish for 'speed play', I think) on a run? Just pick an object or landmark up ahead and then up your pace/sprint until you get to it before returning to your easy pace agin. Repeat several times! I prefer this to intervals as I can choose targets depending on how I feel on the day. It is great for increasing pace.
