Help!!!! Stuck indoors - no treadmill!!

Hi everyone, my son had a cough yesterday (not for long - maybe an hour) and my family are saying I should self isolate everyone for 14 days as he is classed as vulnerable. I’m a paranoid parent so think it’s advisable, although he seems ok today. I’m half way through my runs now. I was about to do w4r2 today. My problem is I live in a narrow 3 storey house with a small back garden. I also don’t have a treadmill. Can I run about the house? I don’t want to leave my running after I have worked so hard up until now.

Oh no I do feel for you and I hope your son is ok!

I’m no expert as I’m behind you in week 3, but I’ve read several posts on here of people running around their houses, or even running on the spot, so as long as you keep following the running and walking instructions it should still work for you. Take care and let us all know how you get on

No cough today thankfully but he’s had the NHS letter to stay in for 12 weeks. He’s got health issues so I just can’t risk it. I will definitely give it a go. I do love going out for my runs and I am gutted I can’t but obviously our family comes first. No way am I stopping now to restart all over again x

Just keep going with it as you need the structure and challenge of it more than ever now while staying completely at home. And I’m sure your son will be proud of you for keeping it up!

With all those stairs you can even include some ‘hills’ for variety 😉

Exactly! Totally agree. Even though I am on week 4 I am so proud of how far I have come, to stop now would break my heart!! Kids will think I am insane but no one will see that 😂😂

Kids always think we’re insane for something 🤷🏻‍♀️ How old are they?

13 and 8! My 8 year old paid no attention but my 13 year old thought I was mad! 😂😂

Haha that sounds about right! 13 year olds can be scathing when they want to be too! But take no notice they’ll be proud of you when you’ve done it (even if they won’t say so 😂) and you’re setting them a fabulous example

I feel for you. Let’s hope it will all be over fairly soon although I can’t see it

What's stopping you from running about the house?

Thismumcanrun74 profile image

That’s what I am gonna have to do. Two flights of stairs should make me work harder. I just wondered whether this would still count towards a run

in reply toThismumcanrun74

Of course it counts if you are running, just be careful if you are running down the stairs 🚑😉

😂😂😂 don’t worry I will be. What’s worse than having to run in your house? That would be having broken ankles and not being able to run at all

in reply toThismumcanrun74

Yes, broken ankles would be worse 😂😂😂

So I managed my run in my house! To the back fence and to the front door. I bet my neighbours thought I had lost the plot running out and walking every 20 seconds. I didn’t feel as worn out as my first run and I didn’t run as far (so Strava told me) but I did it and that’s good enough for me!!

Hope your lad is ok... sounds promising as the cough wasn’t persistent and also he’s better today, but much better to be safe than sorry with this virus.

It’s absolutely fine to run around the house... a run is a run... what’s more I think we should give extra congratulations for anybody completing runs indoors without a treadmill, it’s gonna be a little repetitive!

Come tell us how it goes, I can’t wait to read these run reports 🤣 and more importantly tell us how he’s doing... my thoughts and prayers will be with you all.

He’s ok. Seems to be back to normal thankfully. The run was completed and it wasn’t too bad. Got fed up of turning at the end of garden about 100 times but I did it! The route was boring but the run wasn’t as bad as it is outside!! I found it easier than 2 days ago. Needless to say when my sons consultant calls on Wednesday, I will be asking if I can just run outside if he seems ok!! I can’t be doing this running indoors again!! 😂😂

I think the guidance was that people in the 14 day self isolation can go out for essentials... but the consultant is certainly the one to guide you on that score.

I’m happy to run for essentials 😂😂

Good for you , I would of done the same ... I am in the most vulnerable category so can’t go out for 12 weeks but luckily have a treadmill to use

Ah that’s good then that you have a treadmill. Trying to find one desperately but I expect everyone is on the same position right now so I can’t find any for sale

Firstly thoughts and best wishes to you and all the family. Secondly, yes you can run round the house.... I’ve just started week 4 of lockdown in Spain and whilst I graduated a year and a half ago, I still need to “run” 2 or 3 times a week... I’ve progressed from running on the spot to running up and down a hallway to redoing c25k programme but skipping rather than running - as long as you follow the programme then you’ll be fine!

Thismumcanrun74 profile image
Thismumcanrun74Graduate in reply toDiverIzzie

Thank you and sending wishes to you in Spain, I know it’s tougher for you over there at the moment. I will continue to run in the house as long as necessary. No way am I giving up now and it’s nice to read other posts of Runner’s doing the exact same thing. Stay safe x
