Downhearted

So got to W7R1 and feeling fantastic, so proud of myself as I was feeling strong and confident. Been 2 weeks now inside not feeling well with All the symptoms of covid19 and just seeing my progression slip away 😔 started feeling a bit better yesterday and now woken up feeling breathless again. Just want to get back running and I’ve heard the advice is no exercise for 2 weeks after catching the virus ! Will I have to start this all again? Would value advice on where to go back to. And anyone else with similar experience how you are feeling .

All that matters at the moment is that you concentrate on getting well and take care of yourself. Let your body recover and when the time is right you will achieve your goals ☀️

Sorry you have been poorly, but hopefully you are on the mend (and now immune!)The advice is usually that by this point in the programme 2 weeks off shouldn't impact on your fitness, so pick up where you left off. However, the virus is an unknown quantity and you should wait until you are completely better and then maybe go back a week or so, and just see how you get on.

I have been running for three years now and whilst I hear your frustration and eagerness, a couple of weeks delay is not catastrophic, in the grand scheme of things.

Concentrate on getting better, you will soon be fit and progressing again. :)

Our sympathies are with you and while this now seems catastrophic, in the grand scheme of things it will just be a blip in your running career.

All any of us can do after a lay off is to go out for a gentle jog and see what we can comfortably manage, then build back up again.

Drink plenty and rest up. If you can do gentle resistance exercise it may help.

So sorry to hear you’re feeling poorly! I’m not in a position to offer running advice but just look after yourself, recovering is the most important thing, so take the time you need to get your strength back fully and you’ll then be in a great position to carry on. Take care I hope your soon back to full strength

Thank you all. Guess I just have to be patient. Good to hear I won’t be back to the beginning. X

For the first two weeks you won’t lose any fitness, so although it doesn’t feel like it you’re still as fit as you were when you last ran. Fitness goes very gradually after two weeks so if you’re advised to wait two weeks, you won’t lose too much. From what I’ve seen on covid 19, it may have taken some of your respiratory power... what I don’t know is if that’s why they’re saying two weeks, but I’d prepare myself for it to be a little tougher to breathe when I next ran... and that would mean a week or two of not pushing my endurance. This could then negate the loss of fitness in the leg muscles by using those runs for your lungs to get that back in the legs, if that makes sense.

Don’t worry about the running... you’ll be back, and everything you’ve done before you can do again if needs be. We just want to celebrate you being well and running any run again... that’s going to be a real victory. Hopefully this morning is a little blip in your recovery... get well soon.

A Lots of sympathy. Very frustrating for you. However, I’m in there with all the other folks here: take care, get well, cross your fingers you’re gaining a level of immunity. And then, you’ll be back to running! I had a gardening strain last year about this time when I had finished C25k and I was desperate. But hey ho, it all worked out. 😊 Gentle running into the comeback was key for me, but I didn’t have to start again after all. And the running recovery was quite quick in retrospect. So take care. 💕 We look forward to welcoming you back. 🌷🌸💐
