I have seen others posting about running after chemo, that’s awesome that you are running when some time back you must have wondered if you would ever be well enough you must be so proud of yourself
I know I sometimes overdid it a bit during my radiotherapy and just needed a bit more rest the next day. Enjoy any weather that you can...if doing something healthy makes you feel good then do it 😁
Hi there. Well done. I am a cancer survivor (2 times) and a runner. I never ran more than a 10K but I was able to build up my mileage using the Couch to 5K app every other day and then 5 days a week. Listen to your body. When you are tired rest. If you get an injury - rest it until it heals. Repeat weeks if you don't feel ready to move forward - I did this a lot after my heart surgery (I had a cardiac arrest 2 years ago due to a faulty aortic valve). Remember the body is amazing - keep a positive attitude (as in, keep moving one foot in front of the other). Enjoy your good health. Stay safe.
I went through chemo and radiation almost 4 years ago (when I was 28/29). I found that I was still struggling with fatigue for about 12 months after I completed my treatment. I joined a gym, but was so disheartened by my lack of 'progress' that I stopped going. I started running just over a year ago.
My advice is just to really listen to how you're feeling each day, and try not to let a bad day or week make you feel as though you're going backwards. I found I felt better and better each month, but it wasn't completely linear.
It's great that you've started to run, but the thing that made it click with me was when I realised I was doing it because it was a source of pleasure, not as punishment for having gained weight and lost fitness when I was sick. Try to hang on to that feeling of it being a treat for your mind and body, and it'll make it easier to stick with it.
Congratulations for finishing your treatment! Please take good care of yourself. You've been through an awful lot.
So far so good been doing the app every other day and walking on the days I don’t run ...... as I am in lockdown for 12 weeks it’s helping my mind too .....
Hi, good, for, you. Take it easy . Don’t be impatient. I did couch to 5 after diagnosis of Lymphoma and loved it . Became very active and felt well . Then sudden onset of very aggressive high grade blood cancer , put a stop to that . Chemo over . In the middle of radiotherapy . Maintenance chemo to continue every 8 weeks for 2 years . Have developed an auto immune inflammatory artheritis that is attacking my feet ankle and Achilles.
Really really want to get back to running and I will do . Feel so unhealthy at the moment .
You go for it , but take your time . Each extra step in one more step forward . I’m cheering you on , and will catch up one day . Love and best wishes . ♥️🌷🌺🌹🙏
be kind to yourself and one day at a time .......my motto in life now is one day at a time it helps my mind and just focus on the here and now ..... will be doing run 2 for week 3 today 😀
