How long will we be able to run outside?

Hello lovely people - hope you’re all keeping well in these perilous times. Is anyone else feeling worried about running outside? Or - to be more precise - not being able to run outside? I went at 5.45 this morn to avoid people but felt strangely guilty and irresponsible, even though there was no one around! It’s very selfish of me but the thought of giving up when I’ve got to running 25 mins is unbearable. Can running on the spot in the garden keep up fitness levels, do you think? Just wondering how others are feeling about it all ..

I wouldn't worry about running outside........just do it, while you can, without any guilt.

By running and preserving your social distancing, you are keeping mind and body fit, improving heart and lung function, boosting your immune system and to all intents and purposes making it far less likely that you will succumb to the virus.

Running on the spot will preserve your cardio fitness and to a degree your leg muscles and if it comes to it, then we may all have to do that, but for now, keep running, keep smiling.

I do know what you mean I haven't run today ( bit of a knee twinge) but I feel the same when I'm walking my dog, again even though there is no one about.

I know - it’s so eerie isn’t it? I’m in London, which I think will be locked down soon. Getting in a few extremely early runs before that happens. Keep well xx

Ooh! I’m intrigued! I need to do something or being at home with three kids and not running will drive to the wine and ice cream whilst laying across the sofa x

I’m with IannodaTruffe, as ever. All the epidemiologists say it’s contact that spreads the virus - contact with surfaces as well as people, but not open fresh air. So run while we can... 👍 ... and be glad that we can. Or walk. Or stand alone outside and breathe. 🎉 Celebrate current health, even while we take care for future health.

This is lovely - thanks so much. It’s hard to know what to do, with the muddled messages x

I’m worried about it too. I know not being able to run is a small sacrifice in the greater scheme of things if we get locked down. However, running is keeping me sane now. I would also be gutted to have to start C25K again having managed to graduate.

Yes - just when we want to take flight! As you say, it’s a small sacrifice and nothing in the light of world events, but ....

I’m heading out now for a run along country side roads. No people around - just a few horses and cows 🏃🏽‍♀️🏃🏽‍♀️😁😁
