Graduation Run...DONE!

What is to say? I'm absolutely chuffed to bits! I have never really done anything like this before. I've never set myself a challenge (could never think of one, not that I ever thought about thinking of one). This, for me, is quite momentous. 2 years ago I saw C25K advertised and thought, 'yeah! I could do that'. I downloaded the app and truth be told, I looked down the list of runs and the number weeks and... well it all looked a bit too much.

2 years later and a few more pounds heavier (the perils of working in IT - sit, snack, drive, eat, sleep, drive, sit, snack, drive...you get the picture), I thought, I wonder what others like me have done. So I took a look over some of posts on this forum, before committing. I read so many posts from folk just like me, some older, some much older and some from those whose circumstances were much more challenging than my own.

Reading them made me feel a little embarrassed, but also inspired. Here are people who started this, maybe stopped part way through due to injury or ailment or other reason, who then picked it up again and went on to complete it. πŸ‘

I was and am so full of admiration for you all; not envious, but encouraged, enthused and made more determined by your show of tenacity. I am my own Doubting Thomas - and to be fair, those about me doubted me too. I do not blame them (but I've shown them πŸ‘).

To those behind me, take encouragement from my journey and the many tougher journeys of some of those ahead of me. Sometimes the mind-demons do their best, or worst, to convince you to give up; poking and prodding your mind with the most obvious and acceptable reasons to quit. Don't listen to them! You will soon learn to suppress them and they'll soon enough be replaced by mind-angels, the voices that tell you when it's getting tough, that you can do this, you've been here before, you've overcome and won these battles before and that you know you'll feel great each time you do!

I will continue with Consolidation runs, though, I am hoping that they are not just consolidation runs but are 'what I do' now.

I was looking forward to a park run but with this cursed Covid19 these are off - parks shutting their gates. I've loved road running - I hope I am able to continue and that road running is not curfewed too. In case it is, I decided to order a treadmill, it might well prove to be a good investment.

Signing off now for the last time (..maybeπŸ˜‰). A huge thank you to this forum, for your support and encouragement - you are the best.

Keep on keeping on folks, keep safe and as MJ says, 'happy running!'

I've finished it and it was great. Got stronger as the weeks went on. Thoroughly recommend it. Long slow runs are everything.
