Woohoo! W9R1 - FORMER Nemesis Run Beaten! AND first 5k

Well you could have knocked me down with a feather!

It never ceases to amaze me how surprises can come from nowhere. It was raining, I hadn't been able to get out on Tuesday as planned and I could hear the doldrum drums starting up, so I got out and I ran.

Somehow, from somewhere my 50 year old legs just wanted to show me they had it today, and on this run of all runs.

I don't post pics often and haven't posted any run stats at all, but today I'm making an exception as I've worked really hard to get this far. It's my first 5k and I'm proud to own it!

Well done DD and own it you do that's a big thing your first 5k in the bag 👍👍

in reply to

Thank you 😊 Feels great! It was a complete surprise. I ran an old route I hadn't done for a while. I added a little bit, turning own a tiny country lane that I've never been along before - so pretty, even in the drizzle!

Well done!! You should be very proud of yourself - to get the run done and to get to more than 5 km is amazing!!

Especially as it sounds like you really had to make a big effort to not listen to the little voice in your head AND ignore the weather - I know how difficult it can be to ignore those - so well done!! 🎉🎉 👏

I'm a couple of weeks behind you and your posts here have inspired me to stick with it - so thanks for that too!

My next run is tomorrow and for the first time will be outside as the gym I have been using has been shut down - no idea where I can go as it is all roads by me ( am in central London) - closest park is a bus ride away - so wish me luck!

Congratulations on conquering your nemesis - nothing can stand in your way now!! 🎉 👏🎉 👏🎉 👏

in reply to 55Milly

Thank you for such a lovely reply 55Milly 😊.

I am sure you will enjoy running outside, although it does feel quite different to running on the treadmill if you haven't done it before. Just be aware that it might take some adjustment, but do not let it put you off, it is really worth it!

Happy running and keep posting so we can all see how you are getting on!😊🏃‍♀️

Thanks for your encouraging words - appreciated!

Yes it's going to be very different for me running outside but am looking forward to it ....but with a bit of trepidation 😟 as no idea where I am going as far as the route I am taking!!

in reply to 55Milly

Ah, that’s half the fun! 😉

Will you be road/pavement or trail running? The trail surface will have less impact whilst road will offer a firmer surface. Also think about choosing as level a route as possible, just to help ease you in if you haven’t been using gradients on the treadmill. Gradients will strengthen your legs dnd help build stamina.

I run a combination of surfaces where possible, but have been forced to avoid my woodland trails recently as they are so muddy and slippery just now.

Good luck 😉 and keep posting. I’m looking forward to finding out how you get on. 😀

This is wonderful and you must be thrilled. As I puff my way round 2.5 k I cannot even imagine doing 5k.

Also see you are seriously running as your pace is double mine. Amazing.... well done!

in reply to Timotea

Thank you Timotea. I started off doing the Japanese Slow Jogging on each C25k journey. My running has just naturally and gradually developed from there. I haven't set out to up my pace at all, but I do take it down when I need to!! I don't know about 'seriously running' but today my legs felt like they had found a happy pace. 😊🏃‍♀️. Might be a one-off!

And so you should be proud of yourself! 🥳 It's such a great feeling. You've inspired me to have another go at my nemesis hill. 🥴

in reply to Speedy60

Go you! A nemesis hill sounds hardcore and far more daunting than a nemesis run. Let me know when you get to the top!

I wouldn't call it hardcore. It's not steep, it just goes on, and on, and on ...

Oh wow, Delly-dot, you are smashing it now. Really impressed with the run and distance. You are on a roll. 😎🏃‍♀️🤝👍

in reply to Nilsam

Thank you! Just got to keep rolling to the finish line now!

My online Pilates went really well! Wasn't any easier though so I left running until yesterday. 😊

It was a great run, so much the better for being unexpected. Kind of hoping I haven't peaked too soon 😬......

Brilliant achievement of running that 5k - 🤸‍♀️🤸‍♀️🤸‍♀️ think I will take about an hour to get that under my belt, so have a lot of work to do! At least that leaves me with a goal after I hopefully graduate next week. Thank goodness we are still allowed out..... . Hope your next 2 runs are as enjoyable. 🏃‍♀️😄

in reply to apatsyf

Thank you 😊. You're nearly there too. Good luck for your final runs and graduation.

You are right. I'm also relieved that we are still fine to exercise outside. I think I'd go stir crazy indoors now everyone's at home all the time in my suddenly very busy and noisy house!
