I managed to take part in my first park run today, what an amazing event it is.

C25K prepared me really well, as has all of the superb support on this forum.

I was there on time for the β€˜first time park runner and tourist’ briefing. The volunteer describes the route, and made us newbies feel very welcome. Just before the start the Race Director also mentioned newbies on the p.a system and everyone present generously applauded which was amazingly encouraging.

I found the going a fairly tough, it was a bit muddy and hilly. I was with a mate of mine who regularly does the run in 25 mins. Today he kindly slowed down a bit to help me around. The winter route of involves 3 laps and the hills on the 3rd lap were hard, but the very vocal encouragement from all the volunteers was amazing. They are amazing people.

My official time was 30 mins and 35 seconds, a little slower than my Fitbit time ( it took me a little bit of time at the start to reach the start line ) but it’s all good and it’s a park run PB for me no matter what 🀣

To anyone starting C25K, please keep going it is such a great programme. I struggled to run for more than a few mins only 10 week ago when I started C25K. I can do it, and so can you. πŸ‘πŸƒβ€β™‚οΈπŸƒβ€β™€οΈπŸ’ͺ

For anyone who has just graduated and thinking about doing a park run, just go for it. Nobody is judging you, it’s just encouragement and great camaraderie all the way around. Your shape, size , and speed are totally unimportant.

Happy running πŸƒβ€β™€οΈ πŸƒβ€β™‚οΈ

Congratulations to you MartinKH on completing your first 5k Parkrun in a very good time of 30.35, in better conditions I am sure you will be able to run a 5K in 30 minutes or less. 😊 πŸƒπŸΎ

Well done Martin, and you’ve captured the essence of parkrun. I started post graduation in May 2018 and have become totally addicted (72 runs). Volunteering is great too; parkrun doesn’t happen without them .

Thank you Dexy5.

Wow, 72 Park runs is very impressive πŸ‘

Yes the volunteers are amazing people.

I might join the bridge to 10k group / forum too.

Yay, well done Martin, knew you would smash it 😁 πŸƒ 🎊

Great time in the mud - will be even better when it dries up ☺ that PB won't be standing for long 🌟

Thank you very much Joanney.

Without my mates help today acting as pacer/encourager I reckon I would have been 3 or 4 mins slower. Just shows we are all capable of so much more than we think.

It won’t be long before you’re doing park run yourself πŸ‘πŸƒβ€β™€οΈπŸƒβ€β™‚οΈπŸ’ͺ
