We now have 80 (make that 87 and growing π) members in team HU! Woo hoo! Anyone else like to join?
Qualifying runs count from tomorrow. You need to run a minimum of 3km in 30 minutes before March 11th to qualify, but EVERY km you run during this period will count!
Vitality assure me their techies have now fixed the 'whoops 500' error with Strava - but time will tell π
Below is all the info I posted before re. signing up, joining team HU and checking everything is set up OK (there's nothing new in there though if you read the earlier post).
Happy Running Everyone - Go Team HU!!'
----
From earlier post re. signing up, joining team HU and checking you are properly linked:
If you havenβt signed up yet, but would like to represent your country for free, there is still time!
For anyone who has signed up already, it is worth checking now that everything is set up correctly (the last two βcheckingβ points below) β depending on your privacy settings, you may find none of your runs are going to be counted!
You can choose to register with your full real name, or you can use your forum name (or a variant of it, so long as you enter something into both First and Last name). The VRWC support team have confirmed that forum names are OK, despite what it says on the registration screen!
β Joining the HU team
Once you have registered you can join the HU team which Sparkey5000 has kindly set up. You can join the HU team by following this linkapp.runningworldcup.com/tea...
You will be added to the team with whatever name you registered with π
For anyone who has already signed up but would like to change their name to reflect their HU name, you can do so by editing your profile via this linkapp.runningworldcup.com/pro...
β Do check you really have joined the HU team!
I suggest you double check that your name appears on the HU team member list (a few people have had problems and had to try more than once). To check, either use this linkapp.runningworldcup.com/teams or click on βTeamsβ on the left hand side of the website when you are signed into your account. HU should show, and if you click on members you should be able to see your name listed.
β Do check your runs are being picked up!
The final point I wanted to make is about the run trackers. Although runs donβt βcountβ towards the challenge until 5th March, if you have successfully linked your tracker you should already be able to see your runs when you use this linkapp.runningworldcup.com/runs or click on βMy runsβ on the left hand side of the website. Lots of people have had problems with their runs not showing, even though they believed they had successfully linked their tracker (strava, garmin, fitbit, etc.).
Firstly, you should see each of the trackers you have linked. If this isnβt as you expect, then something has gone wrong β most likely the sign in details you input when trying to link the tracker (note, this has nothing to do with the details you used to register, it is based on the sign in details you supply when you try to link the tracker).
Secondly, if you click on the tracker(s) listed, you should be able to see all runs registered by that tracker since you linked that tracker (and even further back in the case of Strava). If you canβt, then for some reason the VRWC system has not got access to your activities, despite having successfully signed into your tracker account. So far, all the instances we have looked at have arisen because of tight privacy options in the tracker. In my case, Strava was fine because I have pretty loose security, but nothing was being picked up from my Garmin; however, once I changed my Garmin privacy options my subsequent runs started to show (note, it doesnβt apply retrospectively which is why it is important to sort this before the qualifying period begins on 5th March).

Ooh, enjoy that run tomorrow OF. My longer run today was badly timed; now it's taper time so it will be a pathetic offering from me. Hopefully the UK will qualify, then I can make a bit more of an impression π

Congratulations on graduating! Don't push yourself beyond your comfort zone though just for this - it's not worth it! If you're doing it already it's great to have you in the team, but it's why we haven't posted about it on the C25K forum - we don't want anyone to push themselves to do anything they wouldn't ordinarily do π
No, I wonβt. Iβve been signed up for this for ages, and wasnβt making the grade. But then ran around 3.2 k in all three W9 runs, and 3 consolidation runs since. So itβs all good, unless everything suddenly goes pear shaped π¬ First run will be Friday π π
Thanks Linda for posting this I was just about to head off for my morning run, but fortunately looked at the Running Cup website first and here, so NZ is 13 hours ahead, but Iβm running for UK. Go HU team (but no yet) π π¬π§
Haha! I know they take local time into account, but maybe it's local time for the country of the team you represent rather than the time of the country you run in π. You're testing the system π€£
I just checked the faq for cross-country timings. This is what it says (I think the countries are kind of reversed for you, but you get the drift!):
'Please see the qualifying time periods listed in each round of the event. You need to run during this time window in the country you live in for the run to count. So, if you are running for Australia but live in London, you run during the London time zone, but your run will still count for Australia.'
Thanks again Linda, it had taken some time for this old brain to work it out π but I reasoned that if we get to the last 16 the timeline says qualifying runs will be from 14 March 00.00am to 15 March 23.59pm so eg running our parkrun on Saturday 14th wouldnβt count as it would only be 7pm Friday in UK, but if I delay my run until 1pm it will count. I guess the tailwalker wonβt wait for me though! (I would never have made a travel agent with all those different time zones either) I should get another 3 runs in the next week. Go HU! π¬π§ Our table is looking great π
'You should run these in the time window for the country you currently are living in. For example, if you live in London but want to run for Australia, run it in the London time window, not the Australia window.'
ππ would have been really disappointed if the run hadnβt been counted. Still in my running gear and off out the door in 2 hrs and counting.........
Iβm in this ππa run to the Gym tomorrow 3 miles hill reps tomorrow night so 2miles to reps then 3miles doing reps then 2 miles back home. Tonight I ran 6.3 miles Friday 3miles run to gym parkrun Saturday and Sunday 14 miles so far this week Iβve ran 14.3 miles ππ
Just joined up. Trying to work out whether my Strava account link is working, it's not showing my 5k from this afternoon... I think I'll link Google fit too to ensure it logs.
Sometimes it takes a while for strava to show in the app, but via the website it's usually there straight away. It may be that your privacy settings in Strava aren't open enough (you need to allow 'everyone' to see your activities).
Blimey. Itβs tipping down here. Iβll have to wait till tomorrow and hopefully the weather will allow me out for my qualifying jog/run. Looks like the rain is set in for the whole day too.
Beautiful sunny but cold day here. I've just done my 4k run from the bridge to 10k plan. I should add another 5k on Saturday plus 8k next Tuesday, fingers crossed. Thanks for setting this up!
Brilliant! Just don't do anything you wouldn't already have planned to do - we don't want anyone pushing through to an injury just for this World Cup! My next planned run isn't til Saturday - I'm itching to get on the board but I WILL wait π
Thank you, it all fits with my plan, but don't worry, I won't do anything daft! I did 16k in total last week so I should be able for it, weather dependent of course!
I'd like to join in. I would have to do this with my Garmin 35 and phone.
My difficulty is how to connect my garmin to the site.
I don't currently use any connectivity or group features. Is this easy to set up? I dont want details of my routes and home location to be widely available. That's why I haven't signed up so far.
It should be possible, yes! I assume you have set up a Garmin account already. You will need the email address and password you used to set up that account.
First follow the link in this post to sign up to the VRWC.
Second, you need to link your tracker i.e. your watch. Select Garmin and it will ask for the username and password for your Garmin account so it can link.
Third, log into your Garmin account and make sure you have your privacy settings set to 'my connections' (at least for the duration of this challenge). That should allow VRWC to access your Garmin activities, but not the rest of the world!
Finally, remember to join team HU using the link in this post.
This way nobody will see your routes and if you want to you can always reset Garmin privacy settings after the cup finishes.
If I log into Garmin connect on my laptop (rather than the app on my phone), then click on the Profile & Account icon in the far top right corner of the screen, then select Account settings, then select 'Account Information' from the list on the right ... I can see Running World Cup at the bottom in the Apps section with a button next to it allowing me to disconnect from the RWC.
It looks very promising I think, well done! Once you've recorded a run, take a look at the HU team - you should be able to see the distance you have run alongside your name. If not, there is still work to be done, but it sounds like you've probably cracked it π
You've done it perfectly I think! If ever you want to use Strava or Mapmyrun in future, it's a similar process. Once Garmin is linked to Strava or Mapmyrun, your run data gets sent there automatically from your watch.
After you run and record it on your watch, everything should happen automatically! What you've just done is link VRWC to your Garmin account, and given permission for Garmin to send your data to VRWC.
I'm in despair with the integration with Strava. None of my runs this week appeared on the running world cup list. I have checked my privacy settings in Strava time and time again and unconnected and reconnected to Strava several times in both the web and app versions of the Running World Cup. Therefore I have given up and just downloaded Mapmyrun in readiness for my impending run.
Here's hoping the weather holds and my sparkly new shoes give me no grief (Sole sort of exploded on my faithful Saucony shoes on Tuesday, I'm going to miss them - we went through so much together !!
Yeh, mapmyrun worked for me. New shoes were great. Weather was rubbish so I ran the 5k rather than the 4k for my week 4 on Bridge to 10k thinking that since I was soaked I might as well carry on!
Hmm. The support team for VRWC did say they had sorted strava! I often find there is a delay in strava showing in the app, but it's usually OK on the website. I've got Strava, Mapmyrun AND Garmin all connected. I'll leave it to VRWC to sift out the duplicates π€£
Will they sort out the duplicates automatically? That would be great, just run my qualifying run at Parkrun and used both fitbit and mapmyrun in case of tech issues. But now it's showing 10k rather than 5k and I was wondering if I need to fix it?!
Update Linda, 4 o'clock on 5th March, I have just ran 4.41 kilometers in 30.41, so I think I have qualified
On the Vitality World Running Cup site it says there are now 90 Healthunlocked team members taking part, the runner who has ran the most kilometers is at the top of the list, the runners who have just ran 3 kilometres in the qualifying time of 30 minutes are at the bottom.
I will confess to having secretly peaked at that board more times today than I should have! In my defence its wet, windy and freezing outside, so much so that I had to cut work short, so what's a girl to do but sit on the sofa and check the team board πππ. Well done on your run, glad it's all worked tooπ
Thanks Linda, I got a congratulations from the app, it continued to say "to complete your week, run another 5K before next week" I may run a 6K this Saturday.
I think it keeps giving you weekly goals based on your previous week's run. I didn't know about that aspect until today. Importantly though, you mustn't feel pressured to run by this VRWC, it is simply to add a bit of fun and not to push anyone to do anything they wouldn't have done anyway.
Just did my first qualifying run! As I have had a bit of a strain in my bum I took it easy with a 3k run and am happy with that for the time being! Only 2k to run by the end of the week, I think I can manage that!! It is so exciting! To run in a group but still be able to run alone! I am liking it!
Brilliant - can you see the distance on the team list? When you say only another 2km to run - are you saying that because of the goal they set? If so, that's not compulsory. I think it's something they've added. I might put up a post about it just now!
When you say it didn't register, are you looking in the app or are you looking on the website? If it isn't appearing on either, have you checked that your privacy settings in strava are open to everyone for activities?
Alternatively, you could try setting up Map my run - there is an option to download your historical runs from Garmin into Mapmyrun so you could still get this morning's run in there. Final option is to complete their form and send a screen print of the run.
I wasn't going to as I have a cold and my 1st race on Sunday so didn't want any pressure...then after a gentle run tonight I told myself I was being daft coz I'm running anyway so what's the difference!
You star. It shouldn't put ANY pressure on you. If you run it counts, if you don't it doesn't. Themz team HU rules. No drama. Hope you feel much better for Sunday. Good luck!
Unfortunately I wonβt be able to participate even though I am in the 80 listed as they havenβt added Runkeeper, and I donβt wish to change my tracker.
That's fair enough. Shame they didn't add it, but I guess it takes a lot of negotiations to agree data sharing - not something they could add at the last minute.
Smelliepoo is absolutely right! You could also start up mapmyrun when you run, recording in both apps. Or alternatively you could export your run from runkeeper to mapmyrun on a run by run basis (although that would be more work!).
I was intending to do my qualifying run this morning but wimped out due to torrential rain. I might try a 3km in the morning or just wait for Parkrun on Saturday. Well done to everyone who's got out there and qualified already - it feels so nice to be part of a team!
I ran my qualifying run today but it is not showing even though my Strava account is linked. My strava settings are set so that everyone can see them. How can I fix this? I have just linked my Garmin as well but this wonβt show the runs I have already done! Any advice anyone?
I have a similar situation where strava is not showing my run from this morning. It did get picked up from Garmin though so I'm covered. Vitality are saying to wait 24hours as there are delays, particularly with strava.
Adding Garmin will only work for future runs (not sure why, but that's how it is!).
Strava and mapmyrun seem to work for retrospective runs.
So, you could export this one run from strava as a gpx file and import it to mapmyrun, then connect mampmyrun (underarmour) as a tracker in vwrc to pick it up. That's a fair bit of work, but possible.
Alternatively, you could wait. It may get picked up from strava eventually (I think weekend is a particularly busy time). If it doesn't, you could then submit this one run as an untracked run for them to add manually via this link runningworldcup.com/runs-no.... Hopefully all future runs will be picked up because you have now linked Garmin.
My run still isn't showing so I have just uploaded it manually on their website. Hopefully it will show soon!! I am running again this evening and I have now linked my Garmin so this run should show. I will wait and see!!!
