Morning everyone just a quick question I have completed 9 weeks now and after every run am still so achy I do stretching before and after and five minute walk each end of run. My partner massages feet back shoulders hips but still I wake up with aches in the night. Is this normal for someone my age and little running experience or should I be seeing the doc 😜🤦♀️

Aches are normal as your body adapts to changes taking place in muscles, tendons etc. But, if overtly painful take a few days off and see your GP. Mine ache the day after a run, but tend to be ready for another outing on day three. Everyone is different ☺

Hi Roydonrunner - I'm 60 and graduated a few weeks ago. I do still get a bit achy but it is diminishing as the weeks go on. I have started incorporating quite a lot of strengthening exercises into my life and it is beginning to pay off. About 3 weeks ago I had heavy legs while running and a bit of problem with sore glutes etc, but it is all getting much better now.
I'm sure our recovery time in middle age might take longer.
Perhaps try yoga, squats, bridges and planks. They've helped me.
Good luck.

I haven't had aches that make me wake up in the night. I do swim a lot, which I feel really works for me. It keeps everything loose without stressing the body.
Oh maybe sitting at a desk for job most of my adult life doesn’t help. I hope it gets less soon

Well done Roxdog 👍. I will take your advice and try some strengthening exercises thanks 🤞

I think I probably do tense. I think my shoulders are always hunched up even when not running. Next run tomorrow will try and relax my body see if that helps and will check out you tube too thanks 🙏

Hi Roydonrunner - yoga once a week might help if you can find the time. Do you have good and we’ll cushioned shoes? Long hot baths are pleasant and may help.

Thanks for the advice I don’t have a bath unfortunately just a shower. 😞. I need to get new running shoes as think mine although from a running shop where I had gait analysis are now 5 years old. Not that I have been running in them for 5 years but prob need replacing. 🤞
