Woodpeckers, robins, bottom-prodding dogs... W5 R3: smashed it!

Sad story: I awoke at 4am today and couldn't contain my excitement for this milestone run! Lol. ;)

By 6:30 I was out doing my warm-up starjumps and brisk walk. I reckon my heart rate was already high due to looking forward to the run!

So off I went, Niko-Niko slow, my first 5 minutes were pleasantly comfortable. Then something soft "booked" my bottom - a random off-lead dog, who then started jumping at me! At least he was friendly and soon got called away. He wasn't gonna make me stop to pet him!

Lots of glorious wildlife to distract me, a golden sunrise and some pumping music to stop my mind going negative, I just let my feet do the work, on odd occasion striding over muddy puddles and pushing through the hilly bits. My worst bit is having to overtake a dog walker on a narrow path, I need to go a tad faster and then drop back to Niko-Niko. I wasn't out of puff but by the time 20 minutes was done, I was in a good place. Again, I did a naughty and carried on running a few minutes to get back to my starting point, then did my warm-down going home, but with a strut and high posture!

I'd SMASHED it!

Compare that to week 1 and puffing like crazy with leaden legs :)

To all those about to do this run, just take it slow, ensure you have a mental distraction such as pumping music, slow down again if you begin to flag, and do your stretches afterwards otherwise you will forget from being so chuffed with yourself! Just finish the run, it doesn't matter if you are very slow, speeding up can be saved for when you graduate!

Have a great run!

What a lovely post. Well done pippkins

Well done on your early bird run. Sounds very positive. Keep up the good work!

I woke to sunshine for the first time in ages this morning and it makes such a difference! I'm just back from my morning dog walk and it is now my time to run. There are still plenty puddles to jump and muddy paths to navigate where I live, but at least I shall be running in the sunshine and not the rain today 🔆 😊.

4am?? Yikes, that's impressive! Well done on completing W5R3, I just finished it recently too and it felt like such a milestone to reach 20 mins so I totally know what you mean!
