What Music Motivates You?

Hi All

I was wondering what music inspires you to pound those streets / treadmills. I like something punchy and aggressive with a beat so although not a wrestling fan, I’ve chosen WWE Anthology, yes the music the WWE Wrestlers enter the ring too! I find it’s got the right amount of energy and beat that I need. I’d be interested to hear what you’ve chosen. 🤔

My running playlist is energetic to keep me going. I quite like to sing a bit as I run, so long as nobody is around anyway 😂 It’s also very random and varied, as is my music taste, so much so it includes Justin Bieber (pop music) to Disturbed (heavy metal) and everything in between.

Whatever does the job 👍 a varied mix is good, a few people have mentioned listening to podcasts as a distraction, I’m going to give that a go too.

I sometimes listen to podcasts. They really absorb me and I forget about all the other arguments I have with myself-legs hurt/can’t do it/can do it etc etc. Today I listened to Bob Geldof on Chris Evans breakfast show. It’s a fantastic podcast. Amazing in fact. I’ve learned loads of stuff from podcasts while pounding the streets on my runs.

I listen to podcasts as well, I find they distract me if I can get into them. Kermode and Mayo’s film review is a great one.

Sounds good, I’ll give it a go 👍

I like listening to the runpod podcasts... the time flies by because I'm absorbed in what I'm listening to. Last run I listened to a recent gardeners question time... I definitely think if you can find a topic you want to listen to it helps to pass the time. I found once the runs got longer that music faded too much into the background and I thought too much about the run

Yes that’s when I started pod casting. Long runs are boring to me and I really enjoy the podcasts.

I listened to an excellent one about escape from east Berlin.

Tunnel 29? That was excellent! Now I'm looking for more of the same.

Yes that’s the one. Got me through a grueller. Lol

I made up a great playlist of 60's hits which kept me going for a long time. Some I hadn't heard for years. They brought back loads of memories. I added more as I thought of them. I had it on shuffle but now it's not really doing the job so I've been thinking about this a lot. I listened to a great BBC Sounds series called Tunnel 29 and then another Fake Heiress. These really kept me going without realising it. I'm now thinking about an audio book but which one? Desert Island Discs is good because you get music and information. 🤔

Sorry! Got carried away.

Thanks for raising this point though Couchphoenix1 - I've been thinking about this a lot 👍

Desert island discs did a 75 anniversary podcast and it had some really interesting people in it with such interesting history and stories.

I love it when this gets asked. I have a massive Spotify list of C25K tracks that keep me going.

Er very eclectic. Shall we say. Kiss, Elvis, Rusted Root...

Love my Runspo numbers! 🎼🎸

Elvis sounds good, particularly A little less conversation a little more action please 😀 I think that would silence any negative thoughts that might pop into my head 🕺

I like slow music, then i don’t have to try and keep up with the beat

Me too. I have two playlists, one fast and one slow, depending on what kind of run I want to do. The slow one is pretty glacial, but it stops me from upping the pace and gives me space to think about things like my stride and posture

I also listen to an audiobook or podcast, very rarely run to music any more.

I just find it distracts me from the fact that I am running, and from the little conversation going on in my head ("Cant do it, gonna have to stop... Yes you can, dont listen... Oh god, its only been 10 minutes... etc")

I might give podcasts a go, hadn’t considered it before, but I suppose it makes sense as you’re listening to Conversation, it may distract you more than music does and keep you running longer, anything’s worth a try 😄

I have a selection (varied) and call it My Running. I just add songs so often get repeats at the moment as it’s not too many yet. I might try the podcasts though as I quite like the idea of focussing on something else. My favourite song is This is My Fight Song by a Rachel Plattan was very apt near the end of a harder run and kept me motivated 😁

My favourite run music is a band called Elder (sort of prog metal music but wuite chilled), but for my last run I listened to a podcast for the first time and it was great as I was concentrating on the narrative as well as soaking up the birdsong and trees etc on my route.

I find Nickelback very good, though most rock music will do the trick. My best run to date was to a rock compilation from Deezer. I managed 6 miles despite the gale force winds.

6 miles in gale force winds !! 😯 Deezer must be hitting the right note for you ! well done that’s really impressive 👍

A tailwind works wonders on your pace!

Have recently downloaded the BBC Sounds app and you can get so much on there. Books, podcasts, history, books the lot. Going to rake through it and give it a try!
