I found this forum a few weeks ago and have found reading everyone’s posts really motivating. I haven’t felt the need to post myself but could really do with some advice if possible.
Yesterday I completed wk 8 run2 came home had a shower did some stretching then back out the door to take my son to his swimming lesson. After about 15 minutes poolside I thought the lights shining on the water where bothering my eyes. But no it was the dreaded aura I get as a migraine is about to kick in! I don’t suffer as badly as I did as a teenager but still get the odd migraine once or twice a year.
Currently recovering back on the old couch and starting to feeling human again. I wondered if anyone else suffers with migraines and if so how long should I wait to run again? Or should I just listen to my body (my mind will tell me to wait a very very long time!).
Thanks

Oh goodness 3 a week must have been really debilitating for her.
Thank you for the advice, I’ll see if the fussiness has gone tomorrow and hopefully get R3 done.
I’ve been much better with drinking water but perhaps not quite getting the full recommendation every day. I did wonder if I had enough before going out so will make sure I’m getting the 2-3 from now on.
Sorry to hear you’re suffering with these rotten things, I have chronic migraine so have symptoms most days with a full blown 3-day episode once per week or so. It can make keeping to a regular running schedule tricky so best to just be kind to yourself and do what you can. I tried running too early a few times, only managed half what I hoped and felt worse afterwards. Best to do what your body is telling you, an extra rest day won’t hurt in the big scheme of things. In the meantime, drink plenty, sleep well and eat regularly, other than that even the experts don’t know what triggers migraines so don’t beat yourself up. Hope you feel better soon x
Thanks for the advice Frizzmog I must admit I’m still groggy today so I think I’ll wait another day before trying to run.
I can’t imagine having one every week, wouldn’t it be fantastic if they did know the triggers? Maybe one day someone will figure it out. I’ve tried since my teenage years but there’s no pattern or sign for mine.
We have hyper excitable brains apparently which when you look at it like that sounds quite special - if only we could use that excitement for fun things 🥴 Weather is a major trigger for me - stormy, changeable, windy, sunny etc etc any weather really 🤣 Have to laugh really! How you feel better soon.
Hi Tynec! This started happening to me a few weeks back. Spoke to my gp who said I need to make sure that I’m drinking enough EVERY day, not just run days and that I’m also eating enough. Some lovely folk on here also suggested adding salt to your water after your run and eating half a banana before your run. After following all this advice, I’m glad to say that my migranes have stopped and (touch wood) I haven’t had any since. I’m dreadful at drinking enough, but I’m now trying really hard to do it. Hope this helps x
I think it's really easy to still be dehydrated after a run. If I don't drink a lot of water the flashing lights start. It's also very easy to overdo things on a run day which can also set them off.
But once it's done, I get fully dehydrated and go for it after a day of recovery.
I get those, usually mild though, only ever had one belter where I had to go to bed. I was told to take a couple of paracetamol as soon as I see the aurora, I think it takes off the worst of the headache, but can feel a lingering headacheyness for a few days afterwards.
