Only ran once so far and feeling unmotivated already 🙄
Has anyone got any tips to make yourself run w... - Couch to 5K
Has anyone got any tips to make yourself run when your feeling lazy?
I think most feel like that at the start, but once you've done it a few times, the feel good endorphins kick in and you don't need much motivation at that point.
Willpower plays a big part in the beginning - especially if the weather is, as it is. Perhaps if the motivation isn't there, you're not quite ready?
It’s up to personal motivation. I couldn’t stay uncomfortable in my body one more minute. So I get up, grumbling all the way.
I can think of lots...
"When you feel like stopping - think about why you started"
"I run for those who can't"
"One day you won't be able to do this; today is not that day"
Try searching for some motivational running quotes - make a board on Pinterest, print some off or whatever suits and then "Just do it!" (Oops! There I go again!😉)
Good luck!🙂
Once I'd decided to start c25k, that was it - from the first run, I was hooked!!
Think about why you started - the challenge is fab, completing a run & wondering what the next one will be.
At the end of the day, you have to find your inner motivation - good luck 😊 🏃
Just bring that feeling of when you completed 30 minute runs before... how energised you were... and maybe how great it felt to hit the couch with a snack afterwards. When I get up feeling lazy I know that all I need to do is get the run done, sort my nibbles out and hit the couch for a good binge watch of some decent telly... so running justifies and enhances my inner lazy.
Give yourself a chance . 8 x 60 second runs is not going to make you a runner . However after the first week ( 3 runs) , you will feel an accomplishment. You will also dread week 2 . Week 2 will stretch you and then you will wonder how you got through week 2. ...... and then it starts ....... wondering how you are doing this and proudly sending pictures of your runs to anyone who will listen . .... the hardest bit is getting dressed and getting outside the door . Go on , you can do it . 👍🏃♀️. ..... just take it slow
Maybe running just isn't for you... Once you find your thing, you'll want to do it, even if/ when it's hard..
Good luck finding your thing! 🍀😊
Aw I think it is bcos I have loved it in the past, thanks tho. 😝
There are things you can do like making sure your kit is ready the night before, or reading inspirational quotes or personal stories, but in the end it's down to your personal motivation. You're either going to dig deep and become a runner or you're not.
I hope you are. Good luck!
parkrun, parkrun, parkrun. Register for your local parkrun. Go along and just walk it. Then the next week walk faster. Next week walk faster. Next week walk and run. etc. if you are competitive like me you will run harder. Before you know it you will be hooked.
Hope you don’t mind me messaging you . I ve just read this , your suggestion of walking the parkrun circuit. I did this a week ago but could only run to the half way mark - had to walk back to the car 🚙 . I m not really sure how i felt about it 😞. When I arrived at the half way mark I was ecstatic and amazed I d run so far ( albeit REALLY slowly) 🐌 . Then when I realised technically I should have the oomph to run all the way back and there was nothing left in the tank , I felt so down 😖. I didn’t run too fast ... I can’t do fast ..... I can just about manage to keep going . I m on week 7 of c25k . I m never going to be ready for the park run on week 9 graduation week 😳☹️.
I’ve registered, as heard positive comments.
Perhaps you need to be kinder to yourself?
It was your first go, and you got half way. That’s a great achievement in itself.
You’re an inspiration to us all, well done and keep up the good works.
Don’t try and run it all. Walk it all first. Then the next week walk a bit and run a bit. No need to be putting yourself under pressure. It is just a nice activity on a Saturday morning and a great way to kick off the weekend. parkrun is what you want it to be. It keeps me motivated and keeps me running.
I'd sit there all night fuming with myself if I didn't, so I just run. Hold on to that end of run high.
Watch some motivational vids on You Tube, and picture yourself fit and toned when Summer finally arrives. I haven’t told anyone I’m doing couch to 5k, I’m waiting until someone notices a change in my body shape and makes a comment. Plus I have the added benefit of feeling stronger and having more stamina.
