Been out and about!

After posting the other day about going out running rather than on treadmill I decided today was the day! Not a good start as my headphones had died so had to faf with wired ones that kept falling out! It was w7r2 so supposed to be 25 min running. I jogged for about 12 then had a little walk then jogged some more then a little walk. outside is so different than on a treadmill. Total distance 2.5 miles and arrived back with a minute to spare so I might repeat todays just to get the full 25 minutes running/jogging in. Am I disappointed? No Its a first experience of proper running outside and a runs a run!

You're right, a run's a run. Headphones can be an issue, plus when I run (outside) I like to think that I'll hear the runaway bus hurtling up behind me so I was nevern100% happy with buds in my ears. I bought a cheap set of wireless bone conducting headphones which I find great. No fiddly wire down my shirt and into my pocket where my phone is and the added bonus of being able to hear my surroundings. I've not tried a treadmill, but have read that running outside can be a bit different, but a bonus that comes with that is changing scenery to look at whilst you're running. I'm sure you will soon adapt, good luck with the next one.

thanks and yes for a first experience of proper running out it was OK . i think i like the treadmill for the set pace it gives you and no hill! But outside will condition your body for all undulations! Enjoy your runs

I did most of the c25k on the treadmill. I found it great as it kept me at a steady pace and I didn’t need to worry about the footing so could solely concentrate on my breathing. It is totally different to being outside but actually I have a real dislike of the treadmill now. I run faster outside but feel slow so when I try to match the pace on a treadmill I feel like I’m sprinting!

With regard to ur run today, repeat it for sure. Why did u need to walk after 12 mins? R u possibly going too fast? It’s a lot harder to try and stick to a slow pace outside in my experience. U shouldn’t move onto the next run until u have completed this one in full. Slow and steady and u will get there. Good luck.

why did i walk? Your first comments regarding the treadmill answer that question.😁 steady pace and secure footing on treadmill, no hills or wind! I just found it much harder on the road and thinking back walked after an incline! i think i will repeat this then carry on.

My 1st run outside was weirdly the opposite. I’d actually worked myself up so much cos I’d read about how much harder it would be to transition but I ran with a friend and found it really easy! Can’t say it’s stayed like that though haha. But i think the more u run outside, the harder it is to go back to the treadmill. Yesterday was a choice between treadmill or running in 40mph winds with sleet showers and I went outside! That’s how much I hate the treadmill now 😂 Do u set the treadmill at 1% incline? Apparently it makes it more like outside but I never did it. Might help 😊

I have the treadmill on 1 incline and thats fine. I perhaps need to go out with a friend and try again. My wife is a couple of weeks behind so hopefully we will be able to go out together once she gets to the longer runs. 😁

Yeah my friend is naturally slower than me but I think it helped keep my pace slow. Company is good for keeping each other going too. Great u have ur wife to do the runs with 👍🏼

Ah good to read this as I am just starting and needed to 'take the bull by the horns' so my first run was just on the spot in the house! I am scared about going outside and running in public and think I may start week 1 again when I do.

I started on the treadmill for that very reason! Try and find a quiet route and just focus on why ur doing this. Honestly no one is even bothered and if u happen to see people u know, they will be spurring u on. Running on the spot may work for the shorter intervals but u might struggle as the runs increase. Keep in mind, ur already doing better than those still on the couch! 😊
