Park run

I want to do park run in week 9 but suspect I won't complete 5k in 30 mins, do you guys who park run include your 5 min warm up/cool down walk in the park run? Or do you just keep trying to run till the end?

Hi. 5K in 30mins is tough and something I will never get near but the fact that you achieve 5K in distance is the goal. I used the Week 9 programme for Parkrun and ran instead of the warmup walk. I kept going even when Michael Johnson signed off as I take quite a while but it is good to hear the updates from him. I now use RunKeeper and trying to work on my pace - tough but I am getting results. Keep going.

This post will answer your parkrun questions healthunlocked.com/couchto5....

If you are close to running 5k in thirty minutes then carry on, but regardless, you will set a parkrun pb that you can chip away at in years to come.

Thank you I used to run parkrun but hadn't run for 3 years due to being unwell now on week 7 really want to park run again but don't want to set myself back by over doing it? Did a 25 min run yesterday but only covered 1.96 miles running so just concerned about doing 3.1 miles without injury?

I have only just started Parkruns and have done three at my local. Don’t forget they have tail walkers and the last one I ran that person came in at 57 minutes the one previous was over an hour. Your state you did nearly 2 miles in 25mins so even if you walked a mile you would only be around 37 mins or so. I don’t think you would have a problem. Be hydrated and run slow and I am sure you will do it.

I would walk the warm up, then run, that's 35 min, you will be very close to the end, you can choose depending on how you feel, keep going a bit during the cool down or walk again. Worst thing that can happen that way is that you improve your time the following week! If you run the warm up, and then the 30min, it will be difficult to do yourself to complete the 5k (if you haven't completed it already) and you might end up running too long too soon

The idea of C25K is to get you running for 30mins, not necessarily 5k - and most of us don’t get to 5k at graduation. I would suggest that you do your 5 minute brisk walk at the beginning, then do your 30 min run, then walk to the finish if you need to. If you’re concerned about being at the back, don’t be - somebody has to be and it’s usually me! The Tailwalkers will be behind you. I’m very slow so usually let them know, although these days there are other walkers who are usually behind me. The main thing is to stick to your plan - don’t get caught up at the start with everyone running off, it’s easy to do and you’ll go off to fast and be disappointed when you can’t keep it up! And most important- don’t forget to register with Parkrun and take your barcode with you!
