Running with Cancer

Hi All,

Hope all your training is going well. We smashed week 5 run 3. The last 5 mins were the killer but we did it!! In celebration we went and did gait annalsys and brought proper running shoes. Really glad we did as I was running with my ankles dipping in and the new trainers straighten me out. I've worked out I only have 8 runs left till my op so I won't be able to complete it but if I get close I'll feel like I've achived. It's a long recovery after but hope to get back to it b4 starting chemo again. Is anyone running on chemo?

That is so inspiring and well done on your 20’ run, that is a real milestone. I’ll let other people who know answe but I imagine it might be good to start from a few weeks back after. Anyway all the very best with the op, I look forward to hearing from you after and seeing your progress. You rock!

Brilliant.

You will have improved your cardiovascular function and muscle tone already, so you have increased your ability to cope with all that your treatment brings.

Chemo and radiotherapy affect different people in very different ways, so don't take any response as meaning that it will apply to you.

You will have to do as we all do after a break, just go out very gently and discover what you can comfortably manage, then build up gradually from there.

Yep Iannoda is right, everyone has different treatment, and reacts differently to it, but if you can even get out for a short walk it's bound to make you feel better. There is research now into how exercise helps. If you have a parkrun near you check out 5kyourway.org/

This is groups that meet at parkrun, and offer support. See if there's one near you, it's really a great help.
