I decided to volunteer at Parkrun and signed up by emailing my local Parkrun yesterday. Better than staying in bed with my cold.
I always enjoy it when I do it, and wrapped up warmly in ski gear and multiple layers I didn’t even feel cold today. It’s amazing seeing all the runners coming past you. A whole new perspective. And hopefully one day will lead to a purple t-shirt.
Happy Parkrun day everyone.

The race director makes sure that all new volunteers are welcome and will show you how to carry out your role. The easiest one to start with is to be a Marshal and cheer everyone on. I shake a tambourine too. It seems to go down well.
When I volunteered at an Easter junior parkrun I had an Easter bunny windmill. Would have been better if there had been a bit more wind - I had to just wave it at the runners
I've volunteered about 4 times now. All that you have to do is turn up on time. Then you will be told where to stand and given a hi-viz and a card with some instructions and a phone number. Have a mobile on you and follow the instructions of the run director when you get there. Lots of cheering on of runners is also a good thing to do. Have fun!
Well done you, very impressive! Must say I’m tempted as have done a dozen Parkruns now and feel like I need to put something back in, if that makes sense?
It makes absolute sense. I wonder about those who boast about doing 54 parkruns in a year* (or more if they go to special days in other countries) or doing a different parkrun every week - do they ever volunteer?
* not on this forum.
I have volunteered over 50 times at my home parkrun/junior parkrun but am starting to feel guilty because we have been to another nearby (mud-free) parkrun every week in 2020 so far so I should volunteer there soon.
Sorry about your cold BTP but congratulations on volunteering at parkrun this morning, yes its nice seeing all the runners coming past you, I also saw a lot of runner's passing and lapping me this morning at my first parkrun of 2020 although I am not too disappointed of my time of 33.30, as long as I am sub 35 minutes I don't mind. 😊 🏃🏾
