Hi

So, im tryint not to get disheartened, thought i was doing well, up to rynning 20 mins in treadmill.

Attempted first outdoor run and i could barely run for 3 mins.

Im considering on week 6 on the treadmill but going back to week 2 for outdoors.

Any advise would be really appreciated thanks

Lisa

Welcome to the forum and well done on your progress.

This guide to the plan is essential reading healthunlocked.com/couchto5...

You can do it, but outdoors is different and requires you to manage your pace.......just slow down.

It may take a few runs to become comfortable, but outdoors offers all sort of delights and adventures, so stick with it and you will get there.

Enjoy your journey.

I both use a treadmill and run outdoors. I think a treadmill makes you think you are running faster than you actually are, and if you try to run like that outdoors, you will be trying to run way too fast.

It's worth trying again, but slowing it right down, obviously outdoors your pace is not controlled by a treadmill, you do it yourself.

Mmm. Running outside is quite different - more resistance from the airflow etc. As others said - you probably need to slow down as it does all feel faster in the gym. But I bet most of the issues are in the mind and the slight shock of transition to outdoor running. I experienced the same when I moved from a treadmill to outside around week 4. Don't feel disheartened and perhaps crack on outside but much slower. Maybe mixing up the programme runs inside/outside will be confusing!

I find the impact on my legs is a lot different running on a treadmill which is why I find it easier in general. Mix it up

Try again, telling yourself that you are going for a ‘jog’ or a ‘trot’. Running is for racehorses. 😃🐎 It’s easy to feel a little panicked when running outside for the first time, take it easy. Also the varying gradients outside can come as a bit of a surprise. In a car a hill that seems like a short gentle slope can feel like Mount Flamming Kilimanjaro! Chose your route carefully 😃

You’re obviously fit enough, have faith hun, you can do it. It’s just different. Enjoy the downhills and the short break you get while waiting for traffic lights etc to change.

Well done getting to this stage and having the confidence to move outside Iss1973, try starting much at a much slower pace than you're used to and gradually speed up allowing your body to tell you what your pace should be. You could even slow down from that slow initial pace if you have to. Enjoy the fresh air and you'll get through it!
