Run on Sunday, it was ok, but I had a bit of troublesome knee. Then started with back ache on Monday which just got worse into Tuesday.
Skipped a run on Tuesday and did it Weds morning before work instead. Have to say, I miss those early morning runs. Must try harder to go back to those I.e. get up early!
Anyway, saw Roxdog post about backache too! Read the replies and realised that I'm doing this running thing all wrong. All the way through C25K, I was just so focused on putting one foot in front of the other, I didnt realise that wasnt 'running properly'. My arms are all wrong, my butt is wrong, my head is wrong, my shoulders are wrong. It's all wrong. I'm all wrong! Who knew that running was so complicated?
So, went out today with the intention of putting it all right. Wow it's hard work, concentrating on all of that and not tripping over!
Still, I did it, and I went further and longer than ever before... and I do mean EVER 🤣.
No bad back, no pains or niggles. My legs knew that they had done extra work though, but it's all good.
I've also learnt from posts on here that I need to start doing planks and bridges. Really? Me? A nearly 50 year old bloke needs to don a leotard and start working out to Jane Fonda videos? Yikes. Where are matching wrist and head sweat bands?
Have a good weekend everybody and happy running

Blimey I’m intrigued as to what you were doing wrong? And more importantly how you corrected it?? And yes everyone should do planks. I’m going to be 50 this year too so no excuses for ANYONE under or over 50. I’m going to be doing a Plankety plankathon over on S and F which will get you to either a 1 minute plank or a 5 minute routine ( depending on ability). More about that will be posted shortly, so go and get your sweatband, Lycra and spandex catsuit and sign up!!!
Oh you name it... looking down instead of straight up, arms swinging across me, shoulders to high. Just all wrong. How did I ever make it to graduation 🤣
Oh wow! It's great to retrain ourselves out of running wrong before the bad habits set in for good! Great news that everything felt good. Having aches and pains is a bit discouraging. I'm suffering a bit today but am confident some strength training and posture posture posture! At least this isn't boring - adds some new challenges to the runs!
Dont know why, but for some reason, when I woke up this morning, I had to pull my shoulders out of my ears 🤣. To be fair, even sat at my desk at work, I have to consciously drop my shoulders. So I recognise that this has likely been a major contribution to aches when running.
But, I know what I'm doing wrong now thanks to your post and all the replies! Thank you!
I’ve found since I’ve started core strength and balance work on rest days that my little niggle in my hip and lower back has gone. Also feel stronger when running and not getting tired as much.
Also please can we have pics when you start your Jane Fonda videos ? 😂😂😂
Have you tried the 30 day yoga challenge? we started it and although it’s yoga and we hadn’t done that before there are planks in there i love bridges and find them easy i do squats every day even in hospital last week i shut myself in the bathroom and did 10 i did start to increase them a while back but they got too time consuming but i can fit in 10 squats and 10 triceps dips while my bath is running
Oh no, not more work to do, when will it end?! Joking aside, it’s a steep learning curve that doesn’t seem to end at W9R3, but we are all the better for it. Well done - keep up the excellent work 👍😁
Oh and don’t forget the Pilates routines too.. lots of shoulder downs, blades down the backbone, open chest bones, engage core, balance on one leg whilst doing tree tree pose, plank, cobra, bridge etc etc. It’s a whole new world Mig for you to embrace and your back, legs will no longer be your focus. 🤣🤣. You have done amazingly to push on with the mental challenge under control. Yaaaah 👏👏👏
