W6R2 done during first ever Parkrun/walk ☺️

That says it all really. The Parkrun felt a bit strange as everybody hared off and I was quite quickly on my own as I was doing the 5 min warm up walk. Spent the whole route more or less alone, getting lost a couple of times! The person who finished in front of me was 5 mins ahead, and the next person behind me was about 10 mins behind. So the only people I saw were marshalls occasionally, or non runners. It was tough going, but got better as it went on. After the C25K finished I walked for a few mins, felt fine, so thought s*d it and decided to continue snail running.

Stats as per pic. Don’t quite understand why Strava differs so much but if I drill down it says duration 56 mins, 48 moving ?? I moved the whole time 🤔

Thoroughly enjoyed it, and lots of people walking back after they’d finished we’re saying “well done” as I plodded towards the finish line. Stretched at car park, then whizzed home as I needed the loo (TMI?).

Keep running and enjoying it peoples 👍😁

Well done! Good to get along and see how it all works. You must be chuffed that you got a run in albeit a slow one? I'm hoping to give this a go at some stage. How early did you need to get there? I heard that all 1st timers are given a chat beforehand to let them know what to expect? I don't think I'll manage to get to one in the foreseeable though as I've got to go to France again. Need to work on my consolidation runs instead! I had a peek at the map and there are no park runs in the area of France that I'm going to 😩 Are you hooked?

Wenderwoo profile image
WenderwooGraduate in reply to59er

Thanks! I got there early as I wasn’t sure about room for parking, but loads of space so won’t need to do that again - that’s probably why I was desperate for the loo as I’d drunk plenty before I went. They did a brief talk for ‘tourists’ and first timers by the start line about 15 mins before the start at 9.00am which was useful. And yes, I’m hooked although I might not do it every week in the short term - I want to graduate and then I’ll be consolidating like your good self 😁

Brilliant, glad you did one and enjoyed it! 👍👍

I think most people are "alone" during the run, but for me it's the encouragement you mentioned and the willingness of people to chat before + after. Have to say I'm not surprised you got lost, looks a complicated route, you've done it now, should be easier next time?

Just done my 3rd Parkrun this morning........hope you'll be going again and glad you enjoyed it. 👍👍

Great Wenderwoo for trying and completing your first parkrun. Hope you go again😊😊👏👏👏🏃‍♀️🏃‍♀️

Oh I had the toilet thing yesterday🤣

Thanks! I got there quite early and had drank quite a lot before leaving home, and I’m a woman of a certain age, lol ☺️

No need to get lost at a parkrun, there are marshalls or should be and ground markings as well all round the course, congratulations, you were not last, that person 10 minutes behind you was probably accompanied by the tailwalker, I am glad that you enjoyed your first parkrun this morning, many more to come for you.

Wenderwoo profile image
WenderwooGraduate in reply toAlMorr

There were marshalls periodically, but also some “turnings” where there were no marshalls or signs. I mentioned it to one marshall once I’d doubled back and found the right way, and they said they would sort it out next time.....

AlMorr profile image
AlMorrAmbassadorGraduate in reply toWenderwoo

In that case you must subtract at least 4 minutes from your official time, it says 48.42, so you probably ran a sub 45 minutes 5K, so your time was around 44.42

Really well done. That's brilliant!

Dont think I'll get on well with park runs. I do enjoy running alone. Though if it's like you said, I'll probably end up alone anyway 🤣.

Great stuff, very impressed!

Thanks! I enjoy running alone too, but got lost briefly at one point - route markings could have been better. I enjoyed it, it’s a good atmosphere and just a change really. I won’t do it every week, but will do it again for sure. There’s also one out at Nostell too.

Well done! Hope you enjoyed your first one. It’s a big thing just turning up for the first time and going it alone. 👍👏👏👏

Thanks! Yes, I was a bit nervous, but everybody was very friendly while waiting to start, so I soon felt comfortable. And at least I wasn’t last, which was my goal for today 👍😁

First Park Run! Congratulations! 👏🏼

I don't think that I'll be brave enough to do my first Park Run until I finish week 9, so I'm a little in awe of the step you took today. Well done!

If I can do it, you can do it for sure! Maybe Enid might drag you along to one soon, and watch you do it whilst she eats biscuits 🍪 😜

Brave as well as successful! Well done. I am now challenged, even tho' while consolidating the 30mins running I am still finding it hard running the undulating geography where I live. This week I will drive to find some flat territory and gauge how well I can do on the flat.

Congrats WW - the first PR is the hardest! I've never run your particular PR but I'm a bit surprised you got lost because they're usually very well signed, with marshalls at each crucial turn - maybe feed that back to them? You did EXACTLY the right thing by not getting caught up in the excited rush at the start - it's too easy to start too fast and then run out of steam.

The important thing is that you did it and you deserve a huge well done for that :-) .

Lol at TMI. I love the running community. So many people are warm and friendly.

Ooh also, how about doing your first five minutes (walking) before it starts? Is there somewhere you could do that?

Wow that was a brave step to take and you kept to your plan and completed despite the confusions etc. Fantastic!! I have a Parkrun literally on my doorstep but haven’t plucked up courage yet.

I do like solitary running and am not sure how I would feel with so many folk around. I have seen the great swell of people doing our local one and think I need to observe more closely first! We have toilet facilities at lots of places along the route so that won’t be a concern 🤣. Keep it up 👏👏👏

Wenderwoo profile image
WenderwooGraduate in reply toNymahchai

Thanks! I enjoyed it but I prefer running alone too, although I was alone pretty much the whole time. I will do it again, but I’m not going to do it every week, just when I fancy 😁

Nymahchai profile image
NymahchaiGraduate in reply toWenderwoo

Sounds just how I feel about it. Celebrate just being around fellow runners, walkers and everybody just enjoying being outside with feet on the ground 🏃‍♀️😊

Yes, I will do it again, but not every week - maybe once I’ve got this under my belt 😁

Well done Wenderwoo! That is brilliant that you did your first parkrun. So glad that your achilles is behaving itself. I always did my 5 minute walk at the beginning while everyone else disappeared while I was working through the programme. I felt it took the pressure off actually. Now I've graduated I try and do the warm-up walk before we start, but I am still at the back with the dogs and other slow folk i.e. the nicest people :) I've got lost at unfamiliar parkruns too - you'll know what you're doing better next time! Keep it up - you're doing brilliantly :)
