Well done you... as long as you have the go ahead to run,,check out the post linked here..

And focus on exercises for your ankles and legs; warming up well will be crucial too.
What I did for shin splints was take up running. Suffered for years, running largely cured them (not instantly)
Lots of warming up, dynamic stretches. Not held stretches for warmups. Then held stretches for cool down. And take the running nice and slow and gentle, to minimise the impact. Well done for starting, and happy running!
