Been doing well since graduation in September. Mainly consolidating 5k, done a few (almost) 6k runs, as well as getting some hill and speed work done with my running club. Unfortunately, I seem to have developed shin splints, even after gait analysis and £135 shoes! Has anyone suffered and how long were you off the road for? I’m booked in to see a PT next week and have been cross training at gym. Just gutted!
Shin splints...arghh: Been doing well since... - Couch to 5K
Shin splints...arghh
Shin splints are often caused by overstriding........ footfall needs to be under your torso, not out in front.
Upping your training regime too quickly or altering your running surface can also cause them, despite the best footwear.
Try easing back your training.

Take care.
I had shin splints on 1 leg only , don't know how that works. Any way I used this video and it really helped.
Buddy, that’s what I’ve got!! That vid looks great. Going to try those massages!
Oh it must be so disappointing to have an injury at this stage. Feel for you 😢Follow IannodaTruffe advice and hopefully you will soon be back in those trainers. The runs will wait for you! Meantime lots of opportunity to stretch and flex and read all the running links. I have recently been reading up on Chi Running. Very interesting 🧐 Let us know how things progress.
I suffered really badly earlier on this year and didn’t want to take a few months off which seemed to be the recommendation.
Someone else has posted a video with some exercises which helped keep me going, might be worth searching for that. One exercise was using a resistance band tied around the foot of heavy furniture. Another exercise was standing on one leg and raising yourself up on to top toes and holding that for a few seconds.
After competing my first 10k I started doing the Maffetone method (or a close approximation). I’ve slowed down as I don’t let my heart rate go over 140 bpm. I also adapted my running, so shorter steps at a higher cadence. Since doing that I’ve managed to run for longer distances but have to put up with being overtaken by people almost twice my age. No pain though, I’m also fitter than ever and have reduced my waistline.
Also on the odd occasion when I’ve gone ‘all out’ I’ve knocked a minute off my previously stubborn 5k pb.
