Shin splints!! How rude!!

Just finished W6 and shin splints have hit! Never had them before but I have gone ahead and had a gait analysis. I am a under pronator.....which sounds too much like under achiever for my liking!!! New running shoes purchased.....compression sleeves prepared......got my stretches sorted for before and after .......BUT I need some advice......After I have rested these very rude shins do I continue with W7. I was planning on going back to week 4 or 5 and clawing my way back to where I was.

What do you think people??

Oh no! So near and yet so far! If you're off your feet for a few days then I'd be inclined to go at W6R3 gently again to see how it goes and then into W7. You'd need to have a few weeks of rest and recovery to need to go back to W4 or 5. Try it and see. You'll soon know whether they're healed or not. Also worth checking you're not overstriding - your foot should land in line with your hip not in front of it. That's often a cause of shin splints too apparently. Fingers crossed you're better soon!!

Okay, thanks very much for your advice. I am hoping not to be out of action for too long!

I had the same. I read that taking shorter strides and leaning forward would help and it has helped me a lot. I’m on week 7 and no shin problems at all.

That's interesting to know, thank you very much!

I remember reading on here that if you have less than two weeks rest you should continue the programme where you left off, so you should be ok to move on to week 7. Good luck!

Some good advice there Cheryl. Certainly worth a try with stride length. Hopefully I’ll see you in week 7.

Go girl. 🏃‍♀️
