Hi All, have any of you out there had any experience of shin splints? I think this is what I have as I have paying close to the bone in the muscle of my calves (both although one is worse than the other). A quick look on the nhs website suggested this was nothing particularly serious and that it should go away in a couple of weeks with rest. Is that the experience of people out there? Also it suggests lots of warm up exercises which I already do to prevent it-clearly this hasn’t worked for me. Any suggestions for rehabilitation and better exercises for prevention in the future?

I’ve had them twice quite badly back in my footballing days and they were ridiculously painful. I’m flat footed so can put a lot more stress on my calves than normal. Best thing to do is 100% rest them until completely better, however long that needs (I seem to remember mine taking about 8 weeks) and go get your gait properly analysed at a sports shop, they may recommend something with better support, and maybe invest in a neoprene support for your calves.
