Can’t quite get there!

I thought I was doing ok with the C25K up to week 7, doing the running in the gym, but week 8 outside is just too much! The problem may be that I go too quick, or the slopes are defeating me. All suggestions welcome

When you're running on the treadmill your pace is set. Then you change to outside running and it feels tougher.

You have to be really mindful to keep it slow when outside as you are in charge of pace.

Try giving it another go , go slow then slower again.

It just takes bit of practice. Good luck 😊

What Buddy said, slow and steady is the slogan mantra here on C25K.

I've said this before in another reply, I use the treadmill and run outside. I think the treadmill makes you think you are going faster than you are, and if try and replicate that outside, then you will be trying to run too fast.

What I said previously copied below :-

" On a treadmill, the pace is controlled, and obviously outside it's all down to you.

One thing I have noticed, is that on a treadmill even at a slow slow pace, you feel like you are eating up the miles, you can see the belt moving and although it might not feel like you are running fast necessarily, if feels like the miles are going by. Outside at a similar pace, the outside scenery doesn't zip past like you imagine it would (if that makes sense) !

I'm a slow runner, and if I use the treadmill at say 8:30 per km, that feels pretty fast, and you're pounding away on it, yet when I run outside at that pace, it's slow and the scenery doesn't fly by like I imagine it should."

How many runs have you done outside?

It takes most people a few runs to get used to pacing, gradients, uneven surfaces and weather, but persevere and it will happen.

As Buddy34 says, keep it nice and slow.

You can do this.

I had a similar experience, I think it might have been that on the treadmill I didn't add any resistance out of fear I would not be able to complete the run...next time I do a run on the treadmill I will add some resistance to see if that makes a difference :-)

Thanks for all your helpful comments. I’ll just have to try again!

I do a mixture of treadmill and outdoor runs, partly to look after my knees because of arthritis. It is harder outside but I think it's all in the mind as others have said. It feels so slow outside but is probably the same speed. I tend to have the treadmill on an uphill incline.
